Trying to win her Heart

The day after the grand meeting, the atmosphere at Blackwell Enterprises felt… different. Everyone greeted Amelia with more respect than ever. People who once whispered behind her back now forced small smiles, suddenly remembering her name, suddenly acting polite. But Amelia didn’t pay much attention to them. She walked with calm confidence, her new PA badge clipped neatly on her blouse, her notes organized, her schedule perfectly laid out. She wasn’t the same fragile Amelia they once pushed around. And Chris noticed it immediately. When she entered his office that morning, he stood up — something he rarely did for anyone. “Good morning, Amelia,” he said softly, almost carefully. “Good morning, sir,” she replied with perfect professionalism. No warmth. No emotion. Just business. Chris hesitated, surprised. “You can call me Chris. You always have.” She lowered her eyes to her tablet. “Not during work hours. I’m your PA now. It’s better to keep things professional.” He froze. Professional? With him?* For the first time, he understood exactly how she felt during those cold weeks he ignored her. It stung. Later that day, during a meeting, Chris kept glancing at Amelia — the way she spoke confidently, the way she took charge, the way she no longer shrank under pressure. He had lost something precious, and now he was trying to catch it again. After the meeting, he followed her out. “Amelia, can we talk? Privately.” She continued writing on her clipboard. “About work?” “No.” His voice softened. “About us.” She paused, but only slightly. Then she stepped aside and let him follow her into a quiet hallway. Chris ran a hand through his hair. He looked troubled, almost vulnerable. “I hurt you. I doubted you. I treated you like a stranger when I should’ve protected you.” Amelia kept her arms crossed. “You chose to believe a rumor over your own wife.” His shoulders lowered. “I know… and I regret it every second.” She looked away. “Regret doesn’t erase what I went through.” Chris stepped closer, but carefully. > “Then let me fix it. Let me prove myself to you.” Amelia blinked slowly — calm, distant. “You don’t fix trust with words, Chris. You fix it with actions.” She turned to leave. But before she walked away, she added: “And right now, I’m focusing on my job. If you want to regain my trust… you’ll have to earn it.” Chris stood in the hallway, speechless, watching her walk away from him for the first time. And for the first time in his life— **Christopher Blackwell realized he was the one who needed to chase.** ---
