Caleb
I still couldn’t believe I had actually done that.
I stood under the shower, letting the warm water run over me as I tried to clear my head. But no matter how hard I tried, my thoughts kept going back to Jane.
Her face.
Her voice.
The way she had looked at me.
When she told me she was a virgin, something inside me had shifted. I hadn’t expected it. I knew she wanted me, but I could tell she was scared too. There was hesitation in her eyes, even though she tried to hide it.
And that had messed with my head.
I had never been the kind of man to care about things like that. I had been with women before, and none of them had ever gotten under my skin the way Jane had managed to in such a short time.
Maybe it was because she was different.
She didn’t pretend to be confident when she wasn’t. She didn’t act like she knew everything. There was something innocent about her that I couldn’t quite explain.
I turned off the shower and grabbed a towel.
I quickly wrapped it around my waist before stepping out of the bathroom.
Jane was awake.
She stood near the bed, and the moment she noticed me, her eyes widened.
She stared.
I raised an eyebrow.
She immediately looked away, but not before I caught the excitement in her eyes.
A smirk tugged at my lips.
She liked what she saw.
I liked that.
There was something about the way she looked at me that made my mind wander to places it had no business going. Her innocent eyes, her nervous expressions, the way she tried to pretend she wasn’t affected by me.
She could drive a man crazy without even trying.
I quickly pushed those thoughts aside.
I wasn’t going to stand there staring at her while wearing nothing but a towel.
I picked up the clothes the maid had brought and got dressed.
Jane remained unusually quiet.
I glanced at her.
“I’m heading out.”
She looked at me, almost as if she wanted to say something, but she didn’t.
I didn’t wait.
I walked out of the room and closed the door behind me.
The moment I stepped into the corridor, my thoughts returned to everything that had happened the night before.
I still had no idea what I was going to do about Jane.
Keeping her here was necessary. At least for now.
There were people looking for her, and until I got rid of Viktor , sending her back to her mother wasn’t an option.
But the longer she stayed here, the more complicated everything was becoming.
I rubbed the back of my neck and continued down the corridor.
Then I heard voices, I stopped.
They were coming from my father’s study.
I recognized his voice immediately, It was my father.
I slowly turned toward the study, the door wasn’t completely closed.I moved closer, careful not to make a sound.I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but something about the conversation made me stop.
Then I heard something that made my entire body go still.
“Once the organs are removed, make sure they’re transported immediately. I don’t want any delays.”
I frowned.
For a second, I thought I had heard wrong.I moved closer to the door stealthily. My father’s voice came again.
He was discussing payments, buyers and deliveries. He spoke with the same calmness he used whenever he talked about his business.
Except this wasn’t about drugs, this was something far worse. My jaw tightened.
I had always known my father was involved in drug dealings. I hated it, but I had grown up around it. I’d seen the people who came and went, the men who worked for him and the dangerous deals he made.
It was one of the reasons I had always tried to stay away from that side of his world.
But I never knew my father has become involved in trafficking of organs,I couldn’t believe it.
I listened carefully as the conversation continued. They were talking about missing children.
My hands slowly curled into fists.
Suddenly, all those stories I’d heard about children disappearing started making sense.
The trafficking,the disappearances.
People being taken and never found.
Was my father behind some of it?
My stomach turned.
How could he do this?
How could he sit in that room and discuss human lives as if they were nothing more than business transactions?
Where was his conscience?
I stepped away from the door, my heart pounding.
I had to remain calm.
If my father discovered I was listening, I might lose the only chance I had to find out what was really going on.
I walked farther down the corridor and leaned against the wall.
My mind was racing.
If what I’d just heard was true, then this wasn’t some small operation.
There had to be people working with him.
Doctors,traffickers,buyers,people handling the transportation.
And if children were involved, then innocent families were being destroyed while my father made money from it.
I clenched my jaw.
No.
I couldn’t ignore this.
Not this time.
I had spent years trying to stay out of my father’s business because I didn’t want to become like him.
But if he was involved in trafficking people and selling their organs, I couldn’t simply walk away.
I need answers,I need to get to the bottom of this.
I pushed myself away from the wall and looked back toward the study.
I turned and started walking away, but one thought kept repeating in my head.
If my father was involved in this, then there was a chance the people behind Jane’s kidnapping were connected to him too.
I stopped walking.
Maybe bringing her here hadn’t been a coincidence after all.
I needed to get to the bottom of this.
And I needed to do it before more people disappeared.
