CHAPTER 5

675 Words
As I sat in the parked car outside Emma's place, waiting for Xavier's text with the directions to his apartment, my nerves were on edge. The weight of the contract marriage felt heavier than ever, and the uncertainty of the situation made me feel even more anxious. I checked my phone repeatedly, hoping for a message from him. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, and the silence from his end only added to my confusion. What could be keeping him from sending a simple text with the directions? I decided to give him a call, hoping he would pick up this time. My heart pounded in my chest as I dialed his number, but to my disappointment, it went straight to voicemail once again. Doubts started to creep into my mind. Was he intentionally avoiding my calls? Did he regret agreeing to the contract marriage? My mind was flooded with all sorts of unsettling thoughts. I sent him a text message, trying to keep it composed, yet conveying my concern. "Xavier, I've been waiting for the directions to your apartment. Can you please let me know what's going on?" As I waited for his response, the minutes ticked by slowly. My mind raced with possibilities, but I tried to convince myself that there might be a simple explanation for the delay. Feeling uneasy about the situation, I decided to call Isabella, hoping she could provide some clarity. As I dialed her number, my heart raced, uncertain of how she would react to my call. "Hannah, my dear," Isabella's voice greeted me warmly. "How are you?" I'm fine, Isabella, but Xavier left me at my best friend’s house to pack my belongings without giving me directions to his apartment. I don't know where to go," I explained, trying to keep my tone composed. There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and then Isabella's voice turned stern. "I can't believe he would do that! I'm so sorry, Hannah. I'll send you the description of the apartment right away.” Within moments, I received a text from her with detailed directions to Xavier's apartment. Her thoughtful gesture eased my nerves, and I felt grateful for her assistance. As I followed the directions and arrived at the apartment complex, I was struck by its modern and sleek design. It exuded a sense of luxury, which was not surprising given Xavier's wealthy background. As I made my way up to his floor, I couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and curiosity about what his apartment would be like. The door opened to a spacious and well-decorated living room, but there was a distinct bachelor vibe to it. The furnishings were sleek and minimalistic, and there was a large flat-screen TV dominating one wall. It was clear that the apartment was designed for comfort and functionality, with little evidence of personal touches or sentimental items. The kitchen was pristine and well-equipped, but it seemed rarely used. There were a few basic utensils and kitchenware, suggesting that cooking might not be Xavier's forte. I wandered through Xavier's apartment, I couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and unease. The sleek bachelor pad was a far cry from my own cozy and cluttered living space. As I made my way to the master's bedroom, I hoped to find some clues about the man I had entered into a contract marriage with. But as I opened the door to the bedroom, I was met with a sight that caught me off guard. There, standing in the middle of the room, was a young woman with fiery red hair and a sassy expression on her face. She looked just as surprised to see me as I was to see her. Who was she, and what was she doing here in Xavier's apartment? The questions swirled in my mind, leaving me momentarily speechless. Her presence in the room made me feel like an intruder in my marriage, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of insecurity.
