AIKO The darkness came for me while I was wide awake. One second, I was sitting on my window seat, watching rain streak down the glass—a rare occurrence in the Blood Realm’s perpetual twilight. The next, the darkness… moved. Not the normal shadows of my room, but something deeper. Hungrier. It started at the corners of my vision, a seeping blackness that wasn’t just absence of light. It was absence of everything. My breath caught as it spread across the ceiling, down the walls, consuming the rich crimson of my curtains, the obsidian gleam of my furniture, leaving nothing but void behind. I tried to scream, but no sound came. The darkness had a pressure to it, pushing against my skin, my lungs, my thoughts. It felt ancient and patient and so, so empty.
