"Third transition," Daedillion announced, pointing to a doorway on the far side of the cavern. Unlike the previous transitions, this one was marked by an actual door—carved from some black material and covered in symbols that hurt my eyes to look at directly.
"Once we pass through," he warned, "stay together no matter what. The Void Between will try to separate us. It will show each of you personalized horrors. Remember they are illusions, manipulations. The only real danger is losing your way."
Ryuji stepped forward. "What exactly is the Void Between?"
"A buffer realm between the structured realms and the Abyss," Daedillion replied. "Think of it as a DMZ in a war zone."
I frowned at the unfamiliar term, but the meaning seemed clear enough.
