“Hey, Pattie,” Dani said, smiling at the girl. “Haven’t seen you in a while. How did you end up in our neighborhood?”
Patti worried her lip with her teeth. “We…sort of followed you.”
“But she was afraid you’d kick us out if we came in,” the boy said.
“And who are you?” Mack asked.
He straightened to his full five-six. “Sir Robin of Loxley.”
“Ri-i-ght. Bet you’re deadly with a bow and arrow. Now try again.”
“Well, I am a Robin, or Rob. The rest is wishful thinking.”
“We wouldn’t have kicked you out,” Dani told them. “You should know better than that, Pattie. Unfortunately, we ate already or we’d offer you something.”
At that point the kids realized Shadow was watching them and shrank back. “Will he bite?” Pattie asked.
“Not unless you bite him first,” Guy replied with a grin.
