~3rd person’s P.O.V~
Tempest Highland had a hard time fixing herself when Pilar took all the beauty personal with her. Her older sister was surprisingly fooled by the red dress and thought it to be just as expensive as the one she had asked for before.
As she added the last touches to her light makeup, she took one last look at herself in the mirror before hearing her sister through the intercom they had connected around.
It worked with fingerprints and only Pilar had access to all of them, while Tempest had access when her sister allowed it. Only from her room could she activate it whenever.
“Tempest! I’m leaving. I need you to bring me my purse please.” Tempest raised her eyebrows confused as to why her sister said that singular instead of plural.
’I was going too’
She thought as she grabbed her sister's purse and simply put her own phone and a few bucks in the case in her dress's pocket. Jogging down the big halls, the dress flowing behind her as she reached the front door.
Pilar was talking to one of the guards when she turned to her. She gave her sister a teasing laugh. “And where are you going?”
Tempest looked down at herself. “The ball.” She shrugged as Pilar took her gold purse. Looking at her sister noticing how, considerably for her, unfixed she looked, Pilar scoffed.
”Says who?” she asks.
”Me.” The raven-haired girl gave her sister a small unnoticeable glare with her forest-green eyes. Pilar stopped laughing, giving no her a glare.
”I don’t think so. You’ve got work.”
”I’m not Cinderella, Pilar. We have to go. Both of us. It’s a family tradition to all Highlands to be there.” she pointed out a matter of fact. Pilar wasn’t expecting her sister to be aware of that rule.
With the most disgusted she could muster, Pilar gave her sister one last look before continuing toward the car.
With a small proud smile, Tempest closed the door behind her. Once the guards were already positioned inside the back and front cars, having the sisters and hosts in the middle protected. They drove off towards the ball.
Tempest was nervous, she was trying to cover it but her fiddling hands wouldn’t stop rubbing against each other. She felt antsy, and like this odd feeling inside her stomach wouldn’t stop bugging her.
Pilar shifted her gaze from her mirror checking her heavy yet well-made makeup to her sister. She didn’t like taking Tempest to these things, afraid she’d embarrass her considering she wasn’t as highly experienced as she was.
Pilar always enjoyed having her sister on a leash, lower, and constantly insecure. The power she could use to completely overpower Tempest was something that fed her ego monster. She was easily manipulated.
Or so she thought.
”Do you know how to greet the guest? I do not want you embarrassing me in front of them.” she harshly asked the young girl who watched the forest.
The Demilune pack lived deep in the woods. Tempest has never taken a step so far, she didn’t even think there was a raid up till a certain point. She was admiring the view even if it was already night.
“Mhm.” she hummed.
”Do you know the guest?”
”Studied them for three months.” Tempest still didn’t look at Pilar who was looking for something that she wouldn’t know. Tempest knew that.
“How many packs are coming?”
”Fifty. It’s why we had the budget grow this year.” every year they put a budget. Even though it was already pretty high, they had to make it higher. Fifty packs will be attending this event and even though today’s were the highest wolves, there were still many.
It was like chess. Even though the pawns went first, the highest rankings will attend the first night. It mattered more in power. Who was stronger and intimidated more. Believe it or not even the Rogues had rankings.
Packs or loners.
Pilar clicked her tongue. “Do you know who the ballroom owner is?” Tempest finally gave her sister a look which really was more of ‘how dumb Ian that question’
”Alpha Haddox. The Demilune pack. He’s got no mate. No Luna for the pack.” Pilar smirked hearing that. She had to know that last bit of information. Someone as powerful and hot as the Alpha of the Demilune pack not having a Luna seemed like a sin.
Pilar flipped back her hair. “So you do use your brain after all. Good. You’ll need it.”
Now that brought a frown to Tempest’s face. Her perfect-shaped lips pursed as she looked confusingly at her sister. “Why?”
”Oh nothing.” Rogues mixed with packs and many hormonal wolves desperate for mates is something that could bring Tempest to have anxiety.
Pilar was looking forward to a reason to once again outshine her younger sister.
Gulping down a lump of saliva scenarios of what could go wrong crossed every way of Tempest’s mind.

The way the entire place glowed was a call for whoever passed. The wolves really knew how to throw parties or more like them the Bluestone company did. As people got out of their cars with expensive-looking outfits and either paired or not. Mostly weren’t here with a partner.
They were here to look for someone they’d connect with the way mates did. Her eyes watched the way the lights shined through the windows, some even showed a scarlet red glow. It was so enchanting to watch.
Trees were cut in shapes of a crescent moon and there was a red rug heading up the stairs into the grand entrance of the double doors.
As the Highland’s cars parked before the front door, Bane looked through the rearview mirror at the sisters he liked much better. She had been so relaxed and genuinely excited about this event.
He has seen how much she has put work into this. Much more than Pilar ever did. As Pilar got out of the car with the help of one of the other guards, he took his chance.
”Miss?” he called her, making her stop from leaving. “I’ve seen how much work you’ve put into this day and week. Months of preparation and may I give you some advice?”
Tempest nods. “Sure.”
”Just because your sister is older and head of the town, doesn’t mean you’re lower. Don’t let her words trick your confidence that I’ve seen during these days, knock you down.”
At his kind words, Tempest steps forward and puts a hand over his shoulder. “Thank you, Boze. You always know how to make me smile.” she showed him the small yet thankful smile.
“Always. Oh and if you end up feeling down in there,” with one leg out of the car she glanced at him one last time before she had to go. “Remember it is you the one wearing the much more expensive dress.”
Giggling Tempest says goodbye and steps out. No one helped her out. Closing the door she gulps taking in the intimidating mansion. It was huge. If her place was a bit this was a castle.
Her jaw dropped slightly as her eyes widened, taking in every detail she had seen only on the device and looked better in person. The rug made it seem even more luxurious.
She felt amazing. So, why should she let her sister manipulate her confidence? She shouldn’t allow it, at least for tonight.
She worked hard for this.
Pilar just approved.
She looked for the decorations, the staff, the music, food, and everything else. It was her night too. Even if she may do work there it was deserved to be here.
Straightening her back, Tempest managed all her courage and confidence together. She forgot the people around her as she entered the mansion with a straight back, chin up, and a proud face.
The doors even made a sound calling her all the attention. She felt invincible at that moment. And as fast a start it came, it quickly left. Her eyes were wide, they looked like they might pop out.
Every single woman, not one missing, was using that one color Pilar gave Tempest a headache about. The party was themed. Tempest had not recalled this ball having a theme color.
Every pair of eyes watched her. The girl wore a Fuschia-colored dress to a scarlet red ball.
Hello!!
Hope that you liked this chapter and could you believe how the party was themed without Tempest being told. Nobody told her and now she's different than the others. Pilar testing Tempest like she didn't read the files she filed herself of those who were attending.
