“Good morning, sunshine.” Dad’s voice was deep and rough, but his eyes held a gentle warmth as he bent down to plant a kiss on my forehead. I managed a smile, trying to ignore the cold scrambled eggs sitting on my plate. The smell of fresh coffee wafted through the room, a cozy scent that fought against my fading hunger. "Hey, Dad," I said softly, almost too quiet to hear. He stood up straight, looking sharp in his charcoal suit, the silver tie clip catching the light against the neat fabric.
