The Alignment

Chapter 6 Nice The Barrington family sat around the long dining table, the soft glow of the chandelier reflecting off polished silverware. Supper felt lighter tonight, the kind of warmth that followed a successful business meeting. Nice remained Twilight Industries’ biggest supplier of pharmaceuticals, and the victory settled comfortably over the room. Theodore Barrington, composed as ever, set down his glass. “We will be leaving tomorrow.” Across the table, Chloe looked up, her fork pausing mid‑air. “Where are we going, Father.” Her mother, Catherine Barrington, smiled at her daughter, a gentle warmth in her eyes. “We are leaving for Italy, my darling.” Chloe’s excitement was instant, bright, unfiltered, written across her face in a way that made her seem younger than her years. She didn’t hide it; she never did. At the end of the table, Micheal Barrington sat with practiced ease, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp. “Did you manage to discuss my proposal with the rest of the alliance?” Theodore’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. “I told them what we need to do… to have a full understanding.” The words were simple, but the meaning behind them was not. Chloe blinked, her excitement dimming just enough for her mind to start working, patterns forming, threads connecting. Father spoke in code again… Micheal proposed something… and Father said they needed to do what is necessary to understand where it was coming from… the rogue attacks… the threat… She didn’t fully grasp the politics, but she sensed the shape of it. Chloe always sensed patterns, even when she didn’t know the full picture. Her parents continued eating, calm and composed. Micheal’s gaze flicked briefly toward her, as if he knew she was thinking far deeper than she appeared. Chloe smiled again, excitement returning. Scotland Evening settled over the Scottish Highlands like a velvet cloak, the last streaks of gold fading behind the jagged silhouettes of ancient mountains. A cold, sacred wind swept across the moor, carrying the scent of pine, earth, and old magic. Along the narrow path leading to the ceremonial grounds, a long line of figures dressed in white moved with solemn grace. Their cloaks fluttered softly, glowing in the twilight like spirits returning home. Tonight was Elizabeth’s birthday, not a simple celebration. Tonight is the night she is destined to take wolf form, though Elana awakened a year early, a miracle her family concealed from the world. At the front of the procession walked Victor Reid, Acting Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. Behind him, Samuel Silverton, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack. Then Elizabeth, flanked by her mother Gloria, her great‑aunt Marie, and her aunt Victoria, all moving with the regal bearing of wolves from ancient lines. They were wolves of old blood: the Silver moon Pack, the oldest pack on the American continent. Blood Moon Pack, the oldest pack in the world. And at the center of it all walked Elizabeth Silverton Reid, the child who carried both legacies in her veins. The ceremonial grounds opened before them, a circle of standing stones older than any kingdom, humming faintly with power. The moon, rising full and silver, cast a holy glow over the gathering. Victor stepped forward, raising his hands to the sky. His voice carried across the stones, deep and resonant. “Moon Goddess, we give thanks for your guidance. Bless this child of two ancient houses. Let her path be clear, her spirit strong, her wolf true.” A hush fell. Elizabeth stepped forward. Her mother, Marie, and Victoria moved with her, three women of power, three pillars of her lineage. Together, they reached for the clasp of her ceremonial cloak. Slowly, reverently, they removed it. Elizabeth stood bare beneath the moon, not in vulnerability, but in purity, in truth, in the raw form of her birthright. Her family stepped back, giving her space. The air shifted. The stones vibrated. Elizabeth inhaled once, deeply. Then she shifted. Light burst around her, soft, silver, divine, and where she had stood, a wolf emerged. A white wolf. Pure. Radiant. Ancient. Gasps rippled through the crowd. She was enormous, far larger than any normal she‑wolf, her fur glowing like moonlit snow, her eyes burning with the unmistakable fire of the Abrassi bloodline. The oldest wolves bowed their heads. The younger ones stared in awe. Victor’s voice trembled, just slightly. “The White Wolf… The prophecy lives.” Elizabeth stood at the center of the sacred circle, her presence commanding, her lineage undeniable. She was no longer simply Elizabeth Silverton Reid. She was the White Wolf of Blood Moon and Silver moon. She was the heir of two ancient packs. She was the wolf the Goddess had marked. And the Highlands themselves seemed to bow. The Highlands held their breath. Mist curled low across the sacred ceremonial grounds, weaving between the ancient standing stones like living spirits. The moon hung heavy and full above them, its silver light bathing Elizabeth’s newly shifted form, Elana, the White Wolf. Her fur glowed like fresh snow under starlight. Her size dwarfed every she‑wolf present. Her presence silenced the world. The Elders stepped forward in perfect unison, their white ceremonial robes whispering against the grass. These were wolves who had lived centuries, who had witnessed legends rise and fall, who had seen the birth of Alphas and the death of kings. But never, not once, had they seen this. They approached slowly, reverently, until they reached Elana. Then, as one, they bowed their heads. Not in greeting. Not in ceremony. But in honor. In respect. In acknowledgment of a creature they believed existed only in myth. A ripple of awe moved through the gathered wolves. Some gasped softly, others covered their mouths, and a few dropped to their knees without meaning to. The sheer power radiating from Elana was overwhelming, ancient, divine, unmistakably blessed. And still, the howling continued. It had begun the moment Elizabeth shifted, a chorus echoing across the Highlands. Wolves on patrol, miles away, had felt the surge of her power and howled in instinctive recognition. Their voices carried through the valleys, bouncing off mountains, weaving through the night like a song of allegiance. But here, in the circle of stones, no one noticed. They were too stunned. Too breathless. Too consumed by the sight of the White Wolf standing before them. Elana lifted her head, her eyes glowing with a soft, ethereal light. The ground beneath her paws hummed. The air vibrated with ancient magic. She was not just Elizabeth Silverton Reid. She was the union of two legendary bloodlines: And now, standing under the moon’s blessing, she was the living embodiment of their combined power. The prophecy whispered through the Elders’ minds. The White Wolf returns when the world stands on the edge of shadow. Elana’s howl rose, pure, powerful, resonant, and the Highlands answered. Tonight, a legend walked the earth again. Northern Territory Liam walked in, again, without knocking. “Do you have no decorum, witch?” Damon growled. Marcus and the rest of the war council turned toward the mage with open disdain. Liam didn’t flinch. “Not today. I’m feeling the rise of power. Faint… but there.” The men stared at him. “Like… are you serious, bro?” one muttered. Damon’s eyes narrowed. “And this affects us how, Mage?” Before Liam could answer, the power hit the world. A shock wave, invisible but brutal, slammed into every wolf. Some dropped to their knees; others grabbed the table for support. Even Damon staggered. Liam’s expression shifted from confidence to confusion. “…and now?” Damon looked up slowly, eyes wide. “It feels as if an Alpha issued a command… with his Alpha Voice.” Liam froze, stunned into recognition.
