Chapter 17: A Week... Or So

1371 Words
Aurora’s POV Everyday, I felt weaker and weaker. It’s almost as if something was sucking all my energy out and there was nothing I could do except lay on my bed and take a pause from assuming my position in the pack. “My lady…” Mary whispered as I looked at her standing. She was holding a tray in her hand with food. “You hadn’t eaten anything for breakfast so I brought something for lunch. This was braised pork, your favorite.” I forced myself to sit on my bed even though it is clear to me that I do not have enough energy to do so. “It’s okay, Mary.” I smiled faintly as I fixed myself so I could rest my back on the head of the bed. “I am not hungry.” She raised her brows at me, acting like she’s my mother. “I know you don’t want to eat anything because you’re still upset after what happened but… the people will start to worry about your health.” “As if.” I scoffed. “They are now probably spreading rumors about how the Luna is not so strong after all. How she felt threatened over a goddamn omega… wouldn’t it make a great headline for all the outlets that needed to sell news?” She looked at me and just sighed as she sat by the edge of the bed. “Trust me, they care less about the scandal. In fact, Josie came to deliver news about what’s really happening outside.” “My lady!” Josie barged inside with Tanya. “Oh, you wouldn’t believe it! The people had mixed reactions. Half of them likes you… half, not so? But I figure you already know!” “Hmm?” I looked at her way more intensely. “Well, the omega and the servants, like us, were feeling sympathy over Nova. They all thought, if Nova could assume your position, there might be a chance for low-ranking wolves to be wedded to nobles. Which is… foolish, right?” “And oh! Tanya here brought Master Cayden to check on you.” Josie said like it was nothing. “What?!” My voice echoed around the room. “But the people will know!” “Oh please, are you that scared?” My eyes widened as I stared at Cayden whose arms were wide open in my door. I did not think twice and immediately ran to hug him. My energy was replenished and I am glad that he was able to come here. “Oh my, you don’t know how happy I am right now!” My excitement went overboard. “I am so sorry for what happened last time. I did not know it would lead to a scandal. How are you?” “You, bud, are the one who should be asked. How have you been?” He paused and looked around. “I can smell how you stayed here for a week. Am I right?” My eyes went down. “Can you sense it or have Josie snitched on me?” “Silly,” he bopped over my nose. “Of course, she told me.” I rolled my eyes at him and went over my bed. “I have not been feeling well for the past week and I haven’t seen a physician yet. I was told it might be because of the stress so I just gave it a bit rest.” “Hmm, what did you get from the rest?” He asked as she held my hands. He was probably searching for the illness. “I got… uhh…” I placed my finger over my chin. “A bunch of back aches.” We looked at each other for a brief moment before we went laughing. Our voices echoed around the room which, I can tell, is loud enough to be heard in the hallways. “This is why you should've just worked.” He laughed and flicked my forehead like I was a child. “Whatever!” “Does the alpha know you’re here?” I started to panic knowing that the previous scandal might have made a huge impact to his well-being and I do not want him to be caught in a mess again because of me. But then, I saw this distinct playful gaze from his eyes. “Of course! He was the one who told me to come in here.” I raised my brows at him, wondering what’s wrong and what needed to be fixed. He will only be called out from his infirmary if he was truly needed. “What was the reason?” I know Alexander. He will only ask if there was a strong need. “That is a secret.” He flicked my forehead. “Awe!” I flinched as usual. “I am the Luna, shouldn’t I be the first to know what was the reason why a healer must reside in my mansion? Of all people?” “It was strictly confidential. However, needless to say, you’re going to see me here more often. Will you be okay with that?” He asked, as if I did not wished for that. I did not hesitate even for a split seconds and threw myself in his arms. “I want nothing more than to have my bestfriend in my home!” I could feel his warmth pressed against my body. I knew I had found my ally who would stay beside me even if the whole world chose to turn its back on me. I had no plans of pulling away first when I heard the door to my room opened. I immediately looked over it and my smile dropped when I saw who’s coming. Alexander… with Nova. My eyes immediately met Cayden’s gaze and the judgement clouded his stare. I knew he has the same opinion as I did when I first saw that woman and he’s as furious as I am right now. My husband, or my ex, whatever that may be… walked inside. Their fingers were interlocked and the usual bubbly look of Nova crept me out once again. Her voice softened as she looked at Cayden. “You must be the healer! It is my pleasure to meet you.” She offered her hands in front of Cay, hoping he would kiss the back of her palms. Cayden stared at me, clearly waiting to laugh. “I don’t think one of my obligations was to kiss the hands of a woman who made stealing a habit.” An awkward silence corrupted my room. I could feel the tension rising while Alexander… was being silent? Nova was left speechless, her mouth could not even move. I could see her forming a thought behind the seemingly innocent face she’s had prepared. “Oh, I see…” Her voice gradually goes weaker. “I did not know you had a sharp tongue…” “I only made them as sharp as your aura.” Cayden, then again, laughed. “Pfft.” I let out a soft chuckle that made Alexander stare me down. I fixed my poise and whispered, “To what do I owe this visit? I did not expect the two of you to come here so early in the morning to what? Greet Cayden?” “Of course, that’s the plan.” Alexander answered. “It was nice to finally have you on my side, Cayden.” Alexander offered his hands for a shake. “I am inviting you for a lunch later, Nova here will be preparing the food.” Nice. Just nice! I get to eat the food prepared by such dirty filthy woman. “Sure.” Cayden smiled, though I can sense he had something in his mind. “I am interested as well…” He paused for a bit and stared at Nova from head to toe and toe to head. “I want to see… what makes this girl so special you would dare hurt my Aurora.” He said, glaring at Alexander without minding the huge difference in their status and rank.
