"I didn't write this"

282 Words
Jeheak didn’t remember writing it. That was the first thing he said. They were all sitting around—Kat on the floor, Jewels leaning against the wall, Maria scrolling on her phone, and Jay pacing like he always did. Kaneki stood quiet in the corner, barely even there. Jeheak held the notebook in his hands, staring at the bottom of the page. “…I didn’t write this,” he said. Kat rolled her eyes. “Yeah, okay.” “I’m serious.” Something in his voice made everyone look up. Slowly, he turned the notebook toward them. At the very bottom, written in uneven, shaky ink, were two words: “even memories.” Jewels frowned. “That’s not funny.” “I didn’t do it,” Jeheak said again. Maria leaned over. “Maybe you just forgot.” “I didn’t forget.” Jay stepped closer, grabbing the notebook. “Bro, it’s your handwriting.” Jeheak shook his head. “No… it’s not.” For a second, nobody said anything. Because it did look like his writing. But something about it felt… off. Like it had been written by someone trying to copy him. Kaneki finally spoke. Quiet. “…When did that show up?” Jeheak swallowed. “It wasn’t there before.” The room felt different after that. Heavier. Like the air itself was listening. Jay flipped the page. Another line. Fresh ink. Still drying. “The story doesn’t need permission.” Jay dropped the notebook like it burned him. Nobody laughed this time. Somewhere in the room, something creaked. No one moved. And for the first time… They all felt it. This wasn’t just a notebook. Something was writing back.
