SAVAGE
The ride to the shipment took over two hours to get to, but Butch pointed left for us to pull into a motel.
Not knowing why we were going there and not to the shipment, made me wonder if Butch had other plans. He would usually change them at the last minute when we were normally on a run.
Pulling into the motel and lining up next to one another, we switched off our bikes. We all look at Butch, who gets off his bike and walks over to us with a grim look.
“Sliver mentioned staying here for a moment till I get a text,” he said, looking around till his eyes landed on the office to the motel and without looking at anyone. “Blade get three rooms, you and Savage will share, and the rest will too.”
Glancing over to my friend, his face was set into a hard line. Wondering what the hell was going on with him, I clenched my hand into a fist and punched him lightly on the arm, which is what we usually did when we were mucking about.
His eyes went towards me and then rolled them, but before he could give me any wise-ass comment about the punch, I grinned. “Come on, I’ll come with you to get the keys.”
His face softens slightly, but not much. We both got off the bikes and headed to the office, while the others hovered around Butch.
As soon as we stepped into the office, an old man behind the counter looked up and smiled. Blade deals with him, while I look around the office till my eyes go to the window and see Butch with his phone to his ear. Moving away, his body language is all off, which makes me wonder if there is something wrong.
Blade murmurs, which makes me look back at him while he is in a conversation with the man behind the desk. From here, it looks like a conversation between friends, but we have only just walked in here, so why do I have a sick feeling about what they are talking about?
Blade looks back at me and grins. “Me and you have the best room, while the others have basic ones.” I grin, but something in the way he is acting has me wondering if he is playing a game or something. He hasn’t been right since we left. I know there was no call since we were on the road, unless he knew something I didn’t, which would be the case, but this man has been my best friend for years and never made me question his actions. Only recently did I put it down to the way his father has been for the last few years since his woman left him.
Not wanting to get into it with my friend, I look to the side and notice Mace and Butch talking, but it doesn’t look good with how Mace is looking. Something clearly has happened and we need to find out.
Motioning to what is outside, which makes Blade look, he frowns. “I wonder what’s going on.”
“Do you think it’s the shipment? Could there be problems with getting the shipment?” I asked, making him ponder over the questions I gave, but something tells me it has something to do with the shipment or something along the lines of it.
Blade doesn’t say anything and moves from where we stood, then walks straight out the door to where his father is pacing slightly, which isn’t a good sign. I follow him, while keeping back slightly.
“Butch, what is going on?” Blade asked, not calling his father like he would normally do, but being the next in line to be Prez, he knew he had to act accordingly, which meant not questioning him like his father. I know he would if it was only me or Mace in front of his old man, but the other men could also pick up on the tension that is coming from Mace and Butch.
Butch says nothing, while Mace stares at his Prez and best friend like he is wondering what he is about to say, which to me makes me wonder if he already knows what this or what the hell is going on in the first place.
“Butch,” Doc gritted, which made me look at him. He was now glaring at his Prez. “What the hell is going on and why the hell are we stopping here? I thought we were heading to the shipment like you told us at the office.”
That was what we all thought, unless there was something we were missing.
Butch stayed quiet for a moment longer and let out a sigh, but when he goes to open his mouth, his phone vibrates. He looks down at it and looks back up. “This is Silver. I need to take it.”
With that, Butch moves away looking more pissed than I have ever seen him.
Movement to the side makes me look, Blade and Mace are talking quietly together while leaving Doc and me out of it.
I glance at Doc, who moves toward me. “Do you know what the hell is going on?”
Shrugging, I kept my eyes locked on my best friend who seemed to be on edge with whatever Mace had told him. “I have no idea; I’m in the dark like you.”
“f**k,” he gritted. “I should have listened to Dagger when he told me to not go.”
That got my attention. I looked toward him and his eyes locked on mine before he let out a sigh, before leaning in closer to me, so the other two couldn’t hear him, which wouldn’t be a problem now, since they had their backs to us.
“Dagger told me it was a bad idea,” Doc whispered, his eyes on Butch, who was on the other side of me, but continued. “He thinks it’s a shipment of drugs since the sinners have been selling lately for someone.”
Keeping my face neutral, since I didn’t want to let Mace or Blade think we were talking about our Prez, but hearing drugs came from Doc, I was a little surprised since Butch had been clean for a few years now, but come to think about it, he has been acting out of character lately, even when it comes to Effie.
A pang hit my chest when I thought about it, but I shot it down since it has nothing to do with me, even though the s**t they have put her through over the last few years hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone and even some of the other brothers have started to take it all out on her, even though Butch won’t say or do anything about it.
Then something hit hard, which made me wonder if Doc had a point. “Do you think the last shipments were drugs too? The payout we had for the last seven months has been more than we have ever had.”
Doc stills for a moment, but I can tell he thinks the same.
Seven months ago, Butch told all the brothers that he was looking into something that would bring in more money but didn’t want to say what it was till he knew for definite. There was no club vote or anything since we all trusted him. Then we got paid more the first month, and it has climbed more ever since, which every brother has loved but now thinking that it could be drugs—would they all still want anything to do with it? I mean, we all know Butch had a problem with it years back. Blade and I have heard stories from others about what he was like, and it wasn’t nice.
Drug-fuelled days, so that would lead to a blackout that the club ran itself and no one bothered with it till it started to affect the money and business side of the club, which was when Bear had enough, and took over till Butch was back to normal.
Rehab and everything that Bear could come up with. Now come to think of it, I may explain now why he didn’t want Bear to know what we were doing here.
We all know about guns and ammo. But drugs—after everything that they did to him, you would think he would leave the stuff alone, but then again, could he be using it again?
That part was uncertain from what I have seen, but there are signs now when I think about it.
“Mace, Blade!” Butch called, pulling me from my thoughts and looking toward the man, with Doc still standing next to me and even looking to see what was going on.
“You two are with me,” he said, motioning to them to come close to him and then looking back at us. “Savage and Doc, you can both stay here. Sliver is meeting us at the location and told us three of us would be plenty. So, you two can wait for us to come back.”
With that, all three of them walked away while leaving Doc and me alone.
“Savage, I have a funny feeling about this, and it’s not going to end well,” he muttered, turning around and heading toward the bikes.
My eyes watch the departing men when Blade stops and comes back, running toward us till he is in front of me. “Here,” he said, handing me the keys. “You share with Doc.”
“Blade,” I muttered, which made him look at me and frown. “Is this safe? We are not doing—”
“Don’t sound so paranoid, man. Everything is cool,” he said with a smile which doesn’t make me feel any better. “Silver doesn’t think all of us are needed, you two can wait here.”
With that, my best friend turns back around and heads away from me, leaving me wondering if we are going to be in s**t—which in high sight we will be for doing this is, but something about this whole thing sounds off to me.
Worry slips through, making me wonder if this is going to come back on all of us ten-fold and then what.
