The legal team was waiting in Cole's office when I arrived at eight-thirty.
I had not slept. I had spent the night going through every email, every document, every piece of paperwork from my previous job trying to find what Irene Walsh could possibly have flagged. There was nothing. I had left Harrison & Cole on good terms after three years of solid performance. My supervisor had written a glowing recommendation. The timeline was clean.
Which meant whatever Irene had was manufactured.
