Chapter 25 Fear forced my feet to run. Without conscious thought, I bolted forward down the part of the hallway that was still lit then deeper into the bowels of the gym. Clutching the strap of my bag as though it were a lifeline, I ran. The hall twisted past closed doors, and the floor changed from white tile to dingy cement as I came to a ramp of sorts. My speed increased on the slanting floor, and I tripped over my own feet, falling and sliding to a stop against the unyielding cement. I sat up slowly and lifted my hands close to my face to assess the damage. Scrapes on the heels of my palms welled with blood, but pain in my knee quickly overtook any concern I had with my hands. Looking down at the tear in the right leg of my jeans, I could see an angry scrape at least an inch long on
