Chapter 28 During the ride home from school, Jake didn’t bother to ask me about what had happened, but I caught him glancing at me several times in the rear-view mirror. Rachel, looking as though she would burst, chewed her nails and even turned around once like she was going to ask before quickly spinning back to face the front. For the last hour, the vision of Delilah’s—Dee’s—eyes had tortured me. And with each minute my anger bubbled until I was in full rage mode with no idea what to do about it. I had to get even with them for Dee’s sake. That’s what she’d been trying to tell me all along, but I didn’t really know how to do that, so my anger had nowhere to go. I could feel it in the tightness of my shoulders and the headache pulsing behind my ears. Closing my eyes, I rolled my neck.
