Chapter 31
“She’s coming around.” My mother’s voice pierced the fog of my brain.
“Here, Mrs. Gabriel.” Rachel? I tried to open my eyes.
A cold cloth pressed against one cheek, then the other.
“Should I call 911, Mom?” Jake sounded so upset, and I turned my head toward his voice. I cracked my eyelids, and a fuzzy face appeared close to mine but not Jake’s.
Mom’s blue eyes held both worry and relief. “What do you think, Isaac?”
Dad leaned in closer. “Ria, can you sit up?” He slid his arm under my shoulders and didn’t wait for my response before lifting gently up.
I grabbed onto his bicep as a wave of dizziness hit like an avalanche. He stilled until I nodded, then continued to lift me up until I was sitting. My head felt like it weighed a ton, and I let it fall onto my dad’s shoulder.
