Dawn found me still staring at my phone, but the message remained the same. I tucked my legs tightly against my chest. Each time I read the message, it brought the dream back in living color. Blue eyes, darkness, and that voice. As soon as I’d seen the message, I remembered her words. “Free me, Ria.” Swallowing past the dryness in my throat, I pushed the home button on my screen.
What was going on? It had to be some sick joke, but who would send me a message that just happened to also appear in my dream? How was that even possible? At first, I thought maybe I was still dreaming, one of those dreams where you only think you’re awake, but every time I opened the message, there it was. With no number, I had no way of knowing who sent it.
