Jacob, I don’t think I wanted that child. The words settled heavily between us. Hurt flashed through Jacob’s eyes and I felt myself break some more in that moment. He did nothing to hide his emotion. The small softness he had before was gone now. It had evaporated into thin air and in that moment I wanted so desperately for it to come back. “I-” My voice failed me and failed to produce any more sounds. I knew that there was more to be said.
