At first, she had a giddy sense that they were about to throw her a party, but Mrs. Trenham, the office manager, crossed her arms and scowled imperiously at Gina. “Just because it’s you’re birthday doesn’t mean it’s alright to be late, Gina.” “Oh, come on, Jackie,” laughed Michael. “It was five minutes.” Ms. Takeda and the other staffers all grinned and laughed along. Mrs. Trenham tisked. “Be that as it may, this is a workplace.
