Tony turned, blinking, to Danielle, who was about to make the formal introductions when Kirsten broke in. “I bet you twenty bucks,” she said to Tony, “that by the end of the night, you can’t name who at this table is kin — and who’s married.”
Tony’s eyebrows shot up, but now he was smiling too. “Really?”
“None of y’all tell him!” Kirsten begged, and all of the people at the table promised they wouldn’t.
“Won’t you give me a hint?” Tony asked Danielle.
“Hmm.” Danielle considered. “Well, you know I’m married to this gorgeous and honorable man.” She kissed her husband on the cheek. “And I have a sibling at the table — also a cousin.” She winked at Cherry with the eye on the far side from Tony.
