Caine grabbed a champagne flute from a passing server as he slowly circled the venue. He had no idea what Gus was looking for, so he started as he usually did with a perimeter sweep. No one seemed out of place: men in suits, women in gowns, servers in uniform. None immediately drew his attention. Gus showed him pictures of people of interest, including his ex-fiancée and her father. Caine had already spotted the ex, and he wasn’t impressed. She was pretty enough, he supposed, but it was empty. Her smile never reached her eyes and her expression seemed frozen. It was probably due to Botox or some other unnecessary treatment.
