6 We made good time to the base of the mountain. I attributed the threat of death by volcano as the main reason for our brisk pace, and neither Maren nor Sion complained. As we trekked along the grassy plains, the sound of battle filled the air. Other than the noise, there was nothing else to indicate fighting. The sky was overcast with gray clouds, but there was no threat of rain and no smoke. I drew my blade, though I wasn’t sure what good it would do against ghosts. The distance between us and the battle closed and my eyes widened in disbelief.
