"I was thinking that we could give the influencers raw footage to edit for their platforms and a link to the live feed to post on the night of. That way, their posts will generate traffic for donations to the Fowler Charity Foundation," said the gorgeous and cute blonde who is my best friend in the whole world. Sally continued as if giving war strategies. "We'll only let a select few have their own live feed with the stipulation that any monetary gifts on their feed be given to the foundation." "That sounds just brilliant. I'm so glad you are helping me with all this," I sighed in relief. I waved my arm to my coffee table full of papers and a seating chart on the stand. I had commandeered Sally's expertise to help me navigate the media presence at the gala. This was not the first time I worked on a project with Sally. When I first reopened the Presidium after the total renovation, I used her connections and influence to promote my hotel. It worked wonderfully. She had me hook up several popular influencers with the Palatial Experience Package to film for their platforms. It took the rock-bottom reputation of the 100-year-old hotel and turned it into the premier luxury hotel in the state. I couldn't be grateful enough for everything she had done for me. "You do too much," Sally said bluntly as she sipped her wine. "You need to take a break before you keel over from a heart attack. You and I don't hang out anymore, and I want to have a spa day with you." "I know, I know. I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I do miss hanging with you and Bill," I said with practiced ease. "Tell you what, this weekend Jacob is insisting on me going dress shopping with him. He said something along the lines of refusing to let me show up at the gala wearing a pantsuit. Please come with me so he doesn't put me in a hootchie mama dress." Sally bursts into a fit of giggles. "Okay, only if you promise a spa day afterward," she bargained. "Done. Jacob had already said something about getting me waxed head to toe. I swear he pays more attention to my body hair than the reports he's supposed to type up for me." I complained, not looking forward to resembling an infant. "Well, he has your best interest at heart. Did you tell him about the Winthrop family's request? What did he say?" Sally asked, knowing how drama followed that man everywhere. "I did, and he agrees with me. James Winthrop is probably the worst match for me. Can you imagine how much bickering I'm going to have to endure from that pompous airhead if we actually started dating?" I ranted. "What was Dad thinking? "Well... I agree with your parents that you need to start dating. I mean, you can't be alone forever. But I also agree James Winthrop is probably the last person on earth you should be going out with. That man is a walking STD PSA poster," she said with disgust. "He seems to have a new girl on his arm every two days." I shuddered to think a man like that goes around without a care in the world. The ultimate Trust Fund Baby that flaunts his wealth and doesn't care what damage he leaves in his wake. Although I have to admit the man is incredibly attractive physically. Tall, sandy brown hair, and that ever-present mischievous smile. He does have an underwear model's body, which I saw once at a yacht party I was dragged to years ago. Still, he doesn't hold a candle to Devin's physique. "Oh... I see some blushing." Sally teased while nudging me with her elbow. "Does James Winthrop do something to you?" "No, no, not at all... I was thinking about someone else," I muttered, trying to hide my cheeks. "Ohhhhh, there's someone else. Talk, I need details." Sally said excitedly. "No!... I mean, it's nothing," I deflected, not wanting to tell her about the messed-up situation I'm in. "You can't hide anything from me," she exclaimed. Only if she knew about my long-time pining for her husband. "Fine. His name is Devin Hastings. He's the CEO of Gorgetech Innovations. He's really handsome, but I don't think it'll go beyond company collaboration," I explained, leaving out the outstanding night of s*x and the mix-up the morning after. "Besides, I'm way too busy to date." "You sound like a broken record. Make time if this Devin guy is hot enough to catch your attention; I think he may be worth dating. And dating is supposed to be fun. You have really forgotten how to have fun in the last few months," Sally said, concerned. "Besides, I have always wanted to go on a double date with you. Aren't you tired of being the third wheel to Bill and me?" I flinch slightly. "That's why I haven't gone out with you guys in a while. You guys need alone time as a married couple. Plus, the rumor about us being a truple is disturbing. " "Ew... What? No, thank you. I love you like a sister, not a lover," She giggled. "Besides, if you were in a truple with Bill and me, I would require you to wax your legs regularly." "Between you and Jacob, I feel like a sasquatch. My legs are not that hairy!" I yelled, throwing a couch cushion at her. "Fine, you aren't, but you gotta stop hiding your legs in pants. Other than the hair, you have great legs," She teased. "I shave my legs! Plus, I really hate skirts. You have to keep adjusting them to keep your lady bits from showing." I reasoned. "I just like not having to worry about those kinds of things and focus on my job. " "Okay.. Okay. Now tell me more about Devin Hastings." She pried. "Does he like your hairy legs?" "That's it!" I grabbed a pillow and started hitting her with it. She shrieked and ran away with the wine glass still in her hand. I chased her around the house, pummeling her with the pillow until she found another one. Then it was 30 minutes of drawn-out pillow fight that had us collapsed on the floor giggling. I really missed having Sally time.
