‘You said I could come and stay if I felt like I needed a break. Well, here I am.’ Jess struggled inside with her suitcase as Cara toddled in ahead. The little girl headed straight for the kelpie sitting by the double doors leading onto the veranda.

‘Careful darling. Don’t let Molly lick your face,’ Dianne said. ‘Jess, of course you can stay, but I wished you would have called first so I could have got your room organised. Your father’s not here at the moment. He had to go into town to pick up some parts for the tractor. Is everything OK?’
