Chapter 9

328 Words
Skye Carter and Sari were having a winter wedding. This would be the first public event I have gone to since everything happened. Jason was a groomsman. Carter asked me to be part of the wedding, but I felt it would be too much. He asked me to coordinate everything that needed to be done. So the last couple of weeks were filled with conversations with the venues, the DJ, the photographer and the entire bridal party. It was something super simple for me. I ended up clicking with one of Sari's friends and became very close. Bonding over similar losses. Jesse was a few years older than me. Tall, slim, melanin-kissed skin, dark curly hair and brown eyes. She helped me laugh. Even helped Jason come out of his funk too. He had become more attentive to me, really connecting. While I admit that I was still healing, the new connections were helping. The wedding went off without a hitch. Sari looked beautiful in her gown. Connor was the picture of pride watching her walk down the aisle. The night ended with a bunch of us at our apartment. Drinking, playing games. Jesse lived a state away, so we offered for her to stay over since she had been drinking. Everyone else had left around 1am. We stayed up. Drinking and playing games. I am not sure when it happened. Not sure when it became clear where this was headed. A million thoughts went through my head. Maybe this is what I have to do to get him back fully. He did say that he would never leave. He lost his son too. His looks at her are trailing. She does linger when she touches him. It will be okay. I'm sure. And then, after getting some sort of silence reassurance from both of us, Jason said the sentence that would kick it off. "Jesse, I dare you to kiss Skye." His voice was laced with eagerness.
