Chapter 15

Ace This woman. Who I haven't been able to get out of my mind since she literally ran into me. She was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Her body curvy in all the right places. Slightly tanned skin, freckles thrown across her face. Her eyes are a perfect hazel. Her lips full, matching her full cheeks. Her hair, red with seemingly natural blonde and silver highlights that frame her face, is all a mess of beach curls. I wanted to melt into her. Watching her swim in a surprisingly modest bikini, trust me, she can show a lot, was like watching art. She was a symphony in the water. I wanted to be the strings. I tried to avert my eyes, focus on something else. My eyes kept trailing. Skye climbed out of the water, droplets glistening off her skin. She walked over to the chair next to where I was lounging, drying herself with a towel before sitting down. "How was your swim?" I asked her, just glancing over. She smiled, visibly more relaxed. "It was perfect." She opened her book, A Court of Mist and Fury. "What is that about?" I asked her, desperately wanting to hear her voice longer. She looked up at me. Her eyes were sparkling, "You... you really want to know?" Her voice was eager. I nodded my head, giving her a smile. Her entire body shifted, sitting up and facing me, crossing her legs. "Do you know about fae tropes?" I nodded my head. "OK good. So, this is currently a 5-book series and the main character in the first book is Feyre, who kills a fae that was in a wolf form, and then got taken..." She continued to tell me the basis of the series and all the characters. She was so passionate in each aspect. When she took a pause, I asked her, "How many times have you read the series?" Pink flooded her cheeks. "A lot." More times than I care to admit. God, he probably thinks I'm a nerd. Her inner thoughts flooded my mind. I smiled at her, gesturing to let her continue. She kept going for another 15 minutes. We talked for the next hour about books and series. I wanted to learn everything about her that I could. She loved to read. Clearly romantasy and smut were her favorites, but she recently finished the Alexander Hamilton biography by Rob Chernow. She knew every single word to the Hamilton Broadway music AND its deep cuts. She watched the entire Game of Thrones series 28 times. She loved Harry Potter and Twilight, hated Lord of the Rings. We were in deep debate about the ending of Game of Thrones when the door opened. Her husband, Jason, was walking in. His face was red, his eyes dark. Jason looked like tweedy bird to me. He was too scrawny for her, in my opinion. I learned from KB that they had been together since high school. Maybe she lost her virginity to him and was too scared to walk away. Her eye was healing but was still a reminder of what happened. He glared at me, stalking over to her chair. He gave me a light smirk, saying, "What's up man?" His voice even but stinging with irritation. I nodded at him. I would not give him any type of satisfaction by speaking to him. Skye had the first book of the series that she offered to let me read. I quietly grabbed it, tucking it under my leg. Jason leaned down to her ear, thinking I wouldn't be able to hear him. "What the f**k are you doing down here flirting with this guy?" His whisper was vicious, a warning. She blinked, her eyes darting toward me for a second before whispering back: "We were talking about books. Not flirting -" He cut her off, voice still at a whisper, his hand wrapped around her wrist gripping hard. "Shut the f**k up. Let's go." This guy really wanted to get gutted. I didn't let my face show that I heard every word. Not being full human had advantages even though I had to keep it to myself. Skye stood up, blinking her eyes to keep tears from falling, gathered her belongings and turned to me, "Thank you for indulging me in my books and such. It was a pleasure," Her eyes glanced at the red corner of the book sticking out of my leg, "Let me know what you think. Have a good night." I smiled at her. I'll see you soon, beauty. I watched her freeze a moment, a ghost of a smile on her lips, before leaving the pool area, Jason waiting at the door with an angry expression on his stupid face. If he puts his hands on her again, I'll kill him.
