Something was tugging at me. I know Skye is supposed to be mine and that is why I can hear her thoughts, send her mine at will. I am trying to feel her, but it feels strained, almost lifeless. I couldn't get through. I couldn't hear her. Something is wrong. I didn't know exactly where her apartment was. I needed to check on her. If that prick was hurting her, I wouldn't be liable for what would happen to him. A quick text to KB.
Me: KB — where is her apartment?
KB: why..?
Me: Just tell me.
KB: Angelus, why.
Me: I can't hear her. Can't feel her. He forced her to leave the pool earlier and was less than pleasant. Where is her apartment?
KB: Ridge Building. Top floor. Apartment 1.
Me: Thnx.
The walk to the Ridge building was 5 minutes. I was on the opposite side of the complex. The Ridge building was also the most expensive one in the complex. The top floor had 3 units. All massive, top of the line finishes. Rent typically starts at $3600 minimum. I didn't realize that either of them could afford that. I turned the corner to the Ridge building and froze.
Two police cars and an ambulance were outside. What the f**k? I willed my body to move to the door when I saw her. A police officer was walking beside a stretcher, her cuffed to it, with an oxygen mask over her face. Her eyes were closed, from here I could smell the blood on her. Then another officer, walking out with Jason. Not cuffed. His hands shoved in his pockets, a smirk on his face. That fucker. He hurt her. It was clear. It was also clear these cops didn't do their job correctly if she was cuffed, unconscious, bleeding and bruised. They would be headed to the hospital up the street. I made a mental note to check after. For now, I had to handle something else.
I waited until the police left before going inside. I took the elevator up to the top floor. Jason had gone inside, but didn't close the door fully. I could hear him inside, he was on FaceTime with someone, a woman. I felt a pull to open my camera app to video and press record.
Jason: I told them she attacked me and I acted in self-defense.
Woman: Did they talk to her?
Jason: She can't hear anything right now. She wrote it down for them, but the arresting officer didn't believe it. I told them she was blocking the exit and threatening to kill us.
Woman: They bought it?
Jason: Must have. She's in cuffs. I'm not.
Woman: HAHAHA, that's f*****g hilarious. So what now? Should I come over, celebrate?
Jason: As much as I would love that, I am going to take care of a few things. Make sure it goes how I need it too. I am going to file tomorrow, and I am going to get all the money I can so we can go on a very long vacation baby.
Woman: f**k yes. Okay. Let me know if you change your mind, I am going to get a drink with Lil. Love you.
Jason: Love you. Can't wait till the b***h is completely out of the picture.
I heard the ending beep of facetime. This fucker really had no care for her. They were together for so long, yet he wanted to destroy her. I wanted to rip him into pieces. My phone vibrated with a text.
KB: Angelus?
Me: ?
KB: I just got a call from Skye's mom. She lives out of state. Skye called her from f*****g jail.
Me: Yeah, I have things to fill you in on.
KB: I have to get her, her mom is sending me the money for bail.
Me: Can I come?
KB: Sure. Meet me at my car in 5.
Me: I'll be there in 2.
I headed down to KB's car, she was unlocking it by the time I got there. I was so angry. I slid into the passenger seat, queuing up the video on my phone. KB got into the drivers' seat. She grabbed my phone, held out in my palm, and pressed play. She watched the video of his conversation play out. Her eyes were glowing silver. She was just as angry as I was, but she didn't contain her emotions in the same way. "Drive." I spat out.
It took 10 minutes to get to the police station. We both went inside. I requested to speak to the arresting officer, phone in hand. KB sorted out bail and an officer brought into a room. KB said they'd wait for me. The officer came in a few minutes later. An old-timer with military cut white hair. A faint powder residue on his shirt. His badge read T. Moore. He sat down across from me, his voice uninterested when he spoke. "I was told you have information for me regarding an arrest I made?" I nodded curtly. "Officer Moore, you arrested a young woman tonight, Skye. I think you arrested the wrong person. I was outside the apartment after she was taken into custody and overheard her husband on the phone. I thought it would help her and, since I was in a public space, I recorded the call on my phone." I was straight to the point. I showed him my phone screen and pressed play on the video. I watched the officer's eyes as he listened. There was no change. No interest. "I'm not sure how you think this will help her. She was in the wrong," he said. My fury rose to my throat. "How, exactly, was she in the wrong here?" My fists were balled up, my knuckles white. Officer Moore glanced at my hands, then to my face. "Women have a place and a duty to their husband. She was hysterical. She can talk to the judge tomorrow. " I was about to speak when the door opened.
A tall, muscular man came in. His hair dirty blonde, eyes striking blue. I could see the tattoos peeking out of his collar. He had a leash in hand and a badge on his belt. Officer Moore's face went white. "Sargeant Heart? Is everything okay? It's your night off." His voice quipped with worry. Sargeant Heart's lips were in a thin line, his jaw ticked. "You arrested my niece tonight, and I am pretty sure this young man just played a video that proves she wasn't in the wrong."
