530 Words
Ava sat on her bed quietly, her hair was scattered, her clothes rumpled. She was just home, nothing to do, no one to play with. Her brother was a high- schooler and he had gone to school. She had no job, no money and above all no parents. She stared into her mirror, and a beautiful girl with pale blue eyes and reddish-brown hair stared back at her . Picking up her hair brush, she heaved a sigh as she recollected the day she was fired. (Three weeks ago) "What is this??, Do you call this a report??" Her boss shot at her " Do you know the people you are dealing with?, Your stupid report could have cost me my company" He yelled " I'm sorry sir, I only wanted to write a good report, you had asked me to cover the event" Ava defended " Does that mean you should be stupid?, Don't you know that they're something's you shouldn't say?? And how did you know that Mr. Comb's company would go bankrupt, you even included it in the last report" he yelled again " I'm sorry sir" she apologized " But ate we always supposed to suck up to them?? Are we supposed to grovel at their feet?, They're something's we should do, it's our job as reporters, our job as the eyes and ears of the public" " I can't keep up with this anymore " her boss massaged his temples " Just go, you're fired" he shouted pointing towards the door. " I quit, I'm tired of this stupid job anyway" Ava threw the papers on his face, she sure knew what she did was disrespectful as it made her colleagues gasp. She stood panting, she was really angry and sick of sucking up to those CEOs and political leaders, if they don't report fairly, why then are they called the media person's, the watchdog of the society? " You imbecile" her boss fumed " Get out, get out if my company, I'll make sure you never work in any media house in your entire life" he pointed on her face ( Back to the present) " I was really stupid" she sobbed, her boss really kept to his promise, she had gone on several interviews but her name was on the black list, she really would not be able to work anywhere in the Philippines. She loved writing, she loved letting people know of current happenings, she loved being the watchdog of the society but her she was confined by her own room, ostracized from the media society. She would never be able to work in a media house and that was for sure. How was she going to pay her bills?, How was she going to fend for herself and her younger brother. No matter how she thought if it, she could not see herself doing something else, the media was her life and her life was the media. Truly, this must be the end, wasn't life too cruel to her?? It did its worst when it took her parents, now her job and livelihood, she was really not fortunate in this life.
