When Hunter had said what he had said, Jem had felt the hand he had been holding so tightly rip itself away from his grasp. He had turned to look at Grey, who had paled terribly. But, before he could even speak, he had run.
Jem watched him for a few seconds before he turned to stare at the smug-looking Hunter, his unnatural eyes glowing.
“Goddess,” he snapped. “I’m going to kill you myself this time.” He flipped Hunter the bird before he ran after Grey, shouting for his mate's name; he thanked the beings as they all moved out of his way. His heart was in his throat when he got to their bedroom door. He knocked on the door gently and heard no reply, but when he strained his ears, he heard Grey shuffling around.
“Grey?” he asked.
