Grey walked into the main hall, a spacious, semi-circular area. This hall was where the majority of the awards were displayed, along with pictures of students and any notable visitors. He sighed as he walked over to the front of the stage and began logging onto the computer to retrieve the slides for the week.
"How are you here so early?" Jasper grumbled as he rubbed his honey-coloured eyes. Walking in, there still weren’t many students here. Jasper, being on the student council alongside Grey, had to come in early to help, and as the only human, he was undoubtedly an interesting character.
"Jasper, not now. Go and sort out all the seats," Grey said, “Make sure they each have their pamphlet on, and that there’s no mess around them.” Jasper groaned, but nodded, grabbing Kevin’s arm and taking him with him,
Kevin was one of the rarer species that attended school. He was a mer-man. The thing about Kevin was that he was unnervingly hot. If you saw him in the street, you would think he was hot, but the more you stared at him, the more you realised he wasn’t right. Something about him wasn’t quite right. He looked too attractive. He had long pale hair with even paler eyes, and standing at almost 6’8, he was easily one of the tallest creatures here. The human students thought he was blind and mute, while the rest knew that was not quite the case.
No one quite knew what his and Jasper's relationship was. Some said it was friendship. Others said they were together. Grey didn't even know if Jasper even knew Kevin was a mer-man. That, however, would be a very, very awkward conversation to have.
Slowly, students began to pour in, and so did the teachers. Grey saw Sapphire turn on the music, which played as people made themselves comfortable. The seats had all been set up, as well as the main board. Grey had to plan everything, so he sat on the stage, scribbling away. Trying to get 12 teachers, three students and all the student announcements in an hour. It was a difficult task.
"You look like you're about to stab someone." Grey looked up to see Alexander smirking down at him. Grey rolled his eyes at him. He didn't have time to talk to him; he had to figure out the schedule.
Alexander made himself comfortable beside Grey, and he didn't care. He did have to do a little jump to get onto the stage, and Grey was surprised at how gracefully he landed. But he wasn't his priority. His priority was making sure everything was in order. This couldn't be bad. Grey was sure they had some parents also coming in today to see how their kids were performing in a school they were paying so much for them to attend.
It was an essential thing that happened regularly, which meant he had even more pressure and couldn't mess it up. He knew some parents were sceptical of his attending school.
Grey tried to focus. He had somehow managed almost to do this.
"I know you can see me," Alexander said, and Grey did try to ignore him. He wanted his attention, but he couldn't give it to him. His focus was on making sure he managed to get this schedule right.
"Grey," he groaned, and he ignored him. "A simple hello would suffice." Grey ignored him. He would have to apologise later, but he couldn't interrupt him when he was trying so hard.
He heard light footsteps and seemed to have been walking straight toward them.
"Hi." Grey looked up to see Melanie. She was a beautiful girl with long, dark hair and a deep, dark gaze. He ignored her, looking down at the almost complete sheet. He would need to hand it to Jasper to call out the names when it was their time. However, Melanie was eyeing Alexander with a look of lust.
Melanie was an omega born into a wealthy and influential family that often tended to have a promiscuous lifestyle. Yet, no one dared to confront her, as she came from a position of power.
"Oh, hello," Alexander replied. Grey thought he was trying to be polite.
"There's no point in talking to Grey. He can hear you and everything, but won't acknowledge you. He thinks he's above us all and rarely talks to any of his classmates. But he's just as broken as the next person over. I don't think I’ve seen you here before. I'm Melanie, and you are?"
"So over you. Get lost," Alexander deadpanned, and this was not the reaction Grey expected. "How can you say that when he's right next to you? And I'm not a student. I'm a dorm manager."
Melanie frowned. "I'm just saying, you're wasting your effort to try and talk to him."
"Don't tell me what to do, you-" Grey heard another set of footsteps and, looking up, saw Micah coming over and scowling.
"What do you want?" Melanie asked Micah, who scoffed.
"Not you, whore."
"How's the kid?" she said.
"He's fine, thanks for asking." Grey was sure he knew Melanie was being sarcastic. "How's your v****a?" he retorted.
Melanie went bright red and stormed away, and Micah looked oddly satisfied with himself, but then he turned around to see the two boys eyeing him and shrugged.
"Sometimes to get rid of the b***h, you have to be even bitchier."
"Oh, and that comes naturally to you," Alexander mused.
"Alexander, I swear I will deck you straight in the face."
"Can you even reach me?"
"I can when you're on your knees."
Grey’s eyes widened at what had just come out of Micah's mouth, and even Alexander's eyes widened slightly. Micah just looked so smug—this highly entertained him.
Grey heard laughter. More specifically, he heard Jem's laughter and looked in his direction. He was animatedly talking to Rosalyn and Maya about something; both women had small smiles. Will was hanging onto him by the neck, and Jem held his legs so he didn't fall. Grey couldn't help but smile a little; he looked so happy. Even Wolf whined at the thought.
’Look at him! He's so cute! Why can't we just-’ Wolf began.
‘No.’
"I'm sorry, Grey," Alexander said, and Grey peeled his eyes away from his mate to look over in Alexander’s direction, and he gave Grey a small smile.
He looked up at him, slightly confused. Why was he sorry? Did he know something about Jem? Had something happened to him? Was he hiding something? Oh.
