When Will She be Back?

1227 Words
* Marcus's P.O.V.* I got to the tavern early. I wanted to see if she was even here today. I mean I wouldn't even blame her if she had been there, but I wanted to see her,, because she still tried to work even though she had been burnt twice yesterday. I also know that this a little bit different than getting burnt and I was pretty sure that she would not be there today. I stopped in my tracks because I saw her male friend at my front door just leaning up against the door frame. After a second of being shocked, I started walking again. As soon as I got to the front door of the tavern, I tapped the young gentleman's shoulder. I believe his name was Henry. The young man whipped around and he looked me in the eyes, then he opened his mouth. "I have a letter for you from Darci." He then held out his hand that had a letter in it. I took the envelope from his hand and opened it. After I finished reading it, I looked at Henry and then went to unlock the door. I held the door open for Henry. Once inside the building, I walked to my office, but just to be sure that he was doing something, I turned around to look at Henry. I saw that he was doing nothing and so I opened up my mouth to say something, but before that, he looked around the area. Once he was done looking around, he found a rag on the counter and she started to clean up and set up for the morning. "Hey, Henry, I don't know if you know how to cook like her, but we had a deal that she would handle all of that and I would see if I make a profit from it. So, are you going to cover that as well or do we need to close down the food side until she is back." I asked. He answered almost right away, "I can handle the simple foods, nothing too complicated, so yes and no, but I will try my best." I nodded then went into my office in order to do the books to see what we made yesterday. Once, I sit down and pick up a paper and look at it and all I do is read the same line over and over again. I don't like it, but I am distracted by the books and back at what happened yesterday. I put the paper back on the desk and then I went to the kitchen where everything went down and I saw Henry over in the corner where everything went down. When the door creaked, his head snapped up and looked at me. Then he looked back down at the spot with a look of guilt on his face. I walked up behind him, I placed my hand on his shoulder and he kind of shrugged it off my hand. "You need to know that it's not your fault we did what we could, when we could." "No, I blame myself I should've been there for her when she needed me the most. I don't need to be consoled. I am not a child. Honestly, if I could be with her right now, I would, but I promised her that I would help her with her promise to her. So, I will be here for her promise and once she is okay I will be gone." I nodded and then turned to leave. Once I reached the door, I went to open it and turned around, "The tavern opens here in about 10 minutes." He nodded without even looking at me, noticing the room was back to my office, and I noticed that the place looked just as good as if she was there. I slowly walked back to my office. I heard the door open and close from the kitchen. I turned slightly, that is when he spoke "I know it looks like she was here. I taught her everything from cleaning to cooking, though she does cook better than me." "How does she get the attitude from, or where her parents are?" I asked about who her parents are trying to lighten the mood, but he just stood frozen, maybe a little more tense. Once he relaxed a little bit, he answered the question. "We don't know who her parents are or where she came from, we found her on the side of the road one day, with a nice gash on her throat. That's it, that's all that we know about her other than the fact that she is more than a friend to Jake, Jenny, and myself. We don't know where the attitude came from, but it is entertaining at times. Like this one time, even though she couldn't really talk, she told off this mean girl for verbally attacking her." Henry let out a little chuckle at the memory he had recalled of that day. I let out a small chuckle "I wish I was there to see that. How old was she then?" Henry then looked at me as if he was trying to remember. Eventually, he said that she was maybe 13 or 14 years old, but he was not sure because, apparently, Darci doesn't have any memories from before joining the group on their journeys. I turned and headed back to my office and this time I didn't stop. I needed to get the book work done. I did look back when I went to close my door and saw that Henry was going to open the main door and open the tavern for the day. The day went by very quickly and the next thing I knew I heard a knock at the door. "Come in." The door opened and I saw Henry's head pop in and asked if there was anything else I needed from him. I shook my head. He left and all I could think about the entire day was if Darci was gonna be back tomorrow morning or would it be Henry. Don't get me wrong, I like having someone who can handle the store by themselves, plus I've only known Darci for a day and I don't even know that much about her. However, I want to see her tomorrow, not Henry. I don't know what is happening to me, but I want it to stop. I need this week to be over, then I never have to see her again. Yet, at the same time, I want her to stay longer. I don't care if it's just for a couple of days, I can deal with it. You know what, now that I think about it why don't I just ask her to stay and just see what she says? I know that it will be way safer to stay with me than to constantly be on the road. I am the safer option for her and I think that they could always just pick up another guy that wants to r**e her. Yeah, I'll ask her when I see her next and just see what she says. Will Marcus get to ask Darci if she wants to stay? And if he does what will her answer be?
