I got up and got dressed for work just like I do everyday. When I left for work I hoped it looked like I was doing things like I did everyday.
When I left I thought about leaving the ring Steven gave me at the house but Sarah made a good point when she said it would attract attention. Then she said I should just put it in the safe I had installed in the van in case I needed to sell it later. It was a great idea so that is what I did.
Work was great as always, no stupid people so the day went by just fine. Another bright point to the day was that I got to see my sexy stranger again. He showed up at about ten in the morning. And let me tell you the way he walked up and down the beach for the hour was like he was on a runway. And when he bent over to pick up a shell the view of his butt was unbelieveable. Oh he has a fine, fine butt. I really enjoyed the show. Then he got in the water. I just couldn't stand it anymore. I was never so happy in my life as I was when Sarah came over to give me my break. First I pointed him out to her then I casually got into the water. I didn't get to close but I did swim with him. I smiled the rest of the day. And Sarah thought he was cute as well.
So when my shift ended I showered and changed my clothes. Instead of going home I went to a small campground just over the Oregon border. Everything was quiet until about eight o clock that night then my phone started ringing off the hook. The only call I answered was the one from Sarah. She told me to use my other phone from now on and not to come in tomorrow. What ever kind of pull Steven and his family had in town they were using it a lot. There were cops at her house now instead of twenty four hours from now. They were going all out here. I told her I wouldn't make another move till she called me again. Then we hung up. I took the phone apart since I knew it could be tracked but I didn't know how so I took all the pieces and hid them in different places. Then I went to bed.
The next morning I got a text from Sarah saying I was on vacation until further notice. There are people watching the beach and stay away. So after answering the text I sat down to think about the next month. Since I was planning to work I had to rethink my food supplies and entertainment. So to start with I went for a walk. I found a river about a quarter of a mile away from where I parked so I decided to move there. But first I had to go to the little town five miles away to get supplies.
When I pulled into the town I noticed they have one of those tiny Walmart and a second hand book store so those are the places I go. I went to the book store first. There were only two other people in the store so I felt safe enough to take my time. I got a dozen different books, two puzzles and a couple of work search books, and even a couple of coloring books.
At Walmart I did not feel as secure so I tried to get out of there in less than ten minutes. For starters I parked over where the employees parked. Then I ran in and got some fruit, some sandwich stuff, the travel size cereal, a few small containers of milk, some cool-aid packets you pour into bottles of water, and chips. Then I ran over and grabbed some color crayons, pencils, pens, a pencil sharpener, some yarn, and a few different sized crochet hooks. As I walked by the electronics department I grabbed a Garth Brooks Box set, a few more books, a portable cd player, and some batteries. Then I got the hell out of there. It actually took me fifteen minutes to get out of there because the lines were slow moving and I am bad with impulse shopping so I ended up getting more batteries, some headphones, some candy, and a couple of flashlights just in case.
When I got out of there and back to my campsite. Once I got there I got everything put away. I put the extra batteries and headphones in my safe. Everything else went into the coolers and totes. Then I grabbed a book and settled down to wait.
I started to get worried about Sarah. I figured I would have heard from her at around 5:30 or so but I didn't. I was so worried I almost called her a few times, but I didn't since she told me not to. It was almost midnight when she finally called. I was so relieved to hear her voice. She told me my mother came to see her as well as the police, and she told everyone she had no idea where I was. We did it that way on purpose. Then she told me she had been followed all day so she thought it would be better to wait to call. Once again I told her I was sorry that I dragged her into this. She told me not to worry she was happy to help keep me away from these nut jobs. Then she said she should go. She would call me at the end of the week. That I should get comfortable and wait. If I ran into trouble I should text. I agreed, we hung up and I went to bed.
The next morning when I got up I realized that it is still winter lol. And that Oregon is colder than California. There was actually snow on the ground. I was perfectly okay with it I slept in the van and I had plenty of blankets so I was warm. So I stayed inside all day. I passed the time by working on a puzzle, starting a blanket, then I did some reading, coloring, and a little bit of everything else. I did get out and stretch every now and then but i didn't go far because I didn't want to leave any tracks. And this was the pattern for the rest of the week.
As the end of the week came and went, then the second week came and went I started to get worried. I tried texting Sarah but the message came back as undeliverable, I got up the nerve to call her number but it said it was out of order. Now I started to panic. How could her phone be out of order, Why was her phone out of order. What could have happened to her. I really hated my mother for all of this. I don't want to risk going back because I don't know if I will ever be able to escape again. I try to relax. I play that Sarah is okay and I start to plan my day.
The snow is gone and the weather is in the sixty's so I decide to go for a swim. The water is nice, a bit chilly so I don't stay in long. Then I decide I need to make a supply run. So I head back to the Walmart. I also have to get rid of my trash so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.
As I get ready to go the phone rings. I don't know what to do since I don't know the number. After it goes to voicemail I wait a minute to see if there is a message. There is and thank god it's from Sarah. So I wait for her to call back like she says she will. When she does she has some wild news.
So I get told there is good news and bad news. I ask for the good news first. Right now both my mother and Steven's father are both in the hospital. They were in a car accident. Everyone is fine, but they have to be there for a week. At once I am both happy and sad. I don't want anyone hurt. But this means that they aren't looking for me right now. Next she tells me my sexy strangers has been to the beach a few times and even asked about me yesterday. I was shocked, amazed, and happy that he asked about me. Sarah told him there were family issues and I was on leave. And it's all true. Then she gave me the bad news. Last week the phone she had somehow got lost. She always kept it in the same place and didn't program anything into it so we got lucky there but when she found it the next day it was in an upstairs bedroom. The problems with this are she never uses that bedroom. and she always kept the phone in her desk drawer in her office. So she destroyed the phone and waited to call. From there she told me she was still being followed. The cops stopped coming around, so they guy parked out front of her house has to be a private detective of some kind. She can't manage to shake him for long so he is very good at his job. She wanted to get together but didn't think it was a good idea with him around. She asked how I was doing so I told her about the snow and what I was working on. She thought is was a good idea I stay busy anyway possible. She told me not to worry that she would be okay. She would call when she could, and she would call leave a message first then call back so I knew it was her. She doesn't want a repeat of what happened with the last phone. I agreed with her. We hung up and then I headed to Walmart.
Everything was going well when I got there, I got everything I wanted in a ten minute time frame. This time I used the self check out and made it out so much faster. Sadly it wasn't till I was on my way out the door that I noticed I was being followed. He had a picture in his hand and he kept glancing at me. I knew this wasn't good. Lucky for me several people decided to leave at the same time so with me being closest to the door I was pushed out with the crowd and he was pushed to the back of the line. When I got out the door I ran for the van threw everything inside and got the hell out of there. I didn't go to my campsite right away. Instead I drove over to the next town and just drove around a bit. Then I stopped for gas and decided to get a new campsite. The campsite I chose next was in Grants Pass. Now I am half way into Oregon. This campsite I have only been to once with my father so it was a bit hard to find in the dark, but I did it. Once I parked I killed the engine and waited. After the shaking stopped and I didn't see anything moving I figured I was safe for now, so I climbed in back and put everything away. The next day I didn't do anything I was afraid to move. When nothing happened I found the creek and parked over by it. This time I decided to do some fishing so I wouldn't have to go to town so soon.
The next week was very quiet, I did a lot of fishing and some swimming. I went to town at 5:00 a.m. on wensday. Walmart was the only store open at that hour and it was empty. This time I took my time. I got more yarn, more coloring books, a few other things for entertainment and then I went over and got some food items. Then I went over to the twenty-four hour laundry mat and washed my clothes. After that I went and got breakfast before I went home.
Once I got back I had to go through and reset the inside of the van. I got everything neat and put in the boxes. Then I settled down to relax.
And that was my first month in hiding. Yes I was bored a lot and I missed my job but at least I was safe.
