The call came on a Friday evening. Aurora was upstairs when she heard Damian's phone ring in the study below. She was not paying attention to it particularly. Phones rang in the house regularly and it was not her habit to track them. She was sitting at her dressing table writing in the journal she kept inconsistently but returned to whenever things felt too crowded inside her head. Things had been feeling crowded lately. She wrote for about twenty minutes and then stopped and read back what she had written and decided she felt marginally clearer, which was the most a journal could reasonably be expected to do.
