The air crackled with tension.
Three Alphas. Three sets of eyes locked onto her, each filled with a different kind of hunger.
Cassian’s was cold, burning with resistance.
Lucien’s was wild, filled with dangerous amusement.
And Riven’s? His was the worst of all—dark, possessive, predatory.
Elara’s pulse thundered in her ears. The Blood Moon pulsed above, its cursed magic weaving tighter around her. She could feel it—the mate bond sinking its claws into her soul, making her body ache, making her breath catch, making her want…
No.
She clenched her fists, fighting against it.
She would not be a slave to this.
But when Riven took another step forward, his presence suffocating in its intensity, her traitorous body shivered.
“You’re afraid,” he murmured, tilting his head. “Not of me. Not of them. You’re afraid of what this means.”
“I’m not afraid of anything,” she snapped, stepping back.
His smirk deepened. “Liar.”
Before she could react, Cassian was in front of her in an instant, blocking Riven’s path. His jaw was tight, his muscles coiled with barely restrained fury.
“You have no claim to her,” Cassian growled.
Riven laughed, slow and mocking. “And yet, I feel the same bond you do.” He glanced at Lucien. “So does he.”
Lucien shrugged, completely at ease. “She is ours, brother. Whether you want her or not.”
Elara’s stomach tightened at those words.
Ours.
No.
She would never be theirs.
She turned on her heel, her instincts screaming at her to run. But before she could take another step, Cassian’s hand shot out, grabbing her wrist.
His touch sent a bolt of electricity through her.
Elara gasped, her body betraying her. The mate bond surged, slamming into her like a tidal wave, making her knees go weak. Heat coiled low in her stomach, making her breath hitch.
Cassian’s grip tightened. His stormy gray eyes darkened, flicking down to her parted lips, to the rise and fall of her chest.
For a moment, it looked like he might lose control.
And then—
He let go like she burned him.
“You will stay here,” he said, voice rough with restrained fury.
Elara swallowed hard, her pulse erratic. “Like hell I will.”
Cassian’s jaw clenched. “I am your Alpha. You will obey.”
She laughed, bitter and sharp. “You are not my Alpha.”
Cassian’s eyes flashed with rage. But before he could respond, Lucien was behind her, pressing in too close, his warmth sinking into her skin.
“You should be careful when you say things like that, little mate,” Lucien murmured, his lips brushing against her ear. “Makes a man want to punish you for disobedience.”
A shudder wracked through her before she could stop it.
Lucien felt it.
Riven saw it.
Cassian’s fists curled at his sides.
And Elara knew—she had just made a very dangerous mistake.
*********
The tension between them was suffocating. Every nerve in her body screamed at her to flee. But something else stirred deep inside her.
Something reckless.
“If you think you can make me obey,” she whispered, turning her head slightly to meet Lucien’s gaze, “then try.”
Lucien’s golden eyes darkened. His smirk was slow, predatory. “Oh, little mate,” he murmured. “You shouldn’t have said that.”
In a blur, Lucien moved.
One second, Elara was standing—defiant, unyielding.
The next, she was pinned against a tree, her hands trapped above her head, Lucien’s body pressing against hers, heat and dominance wrapping around her like a noose.
Cassian snarled. “Lucien—”
“Stay out of this, brother.” Lucien’s voice was dangerously soft. His lips hovered just above hers, his breath mingling with hers. “She challenged me. I’m just responding.”
Elara’s pulse thundered. She should be fighting. She should be clawing her way free.
But the mate bond had her trapped.
Lucien leaned in, his lips so close, his scent wrapping around her like wildfire and pine. “Tell me to stop,” he murmured. “And I will.”
Elara’s breath hitched.
She should say it.
But her traitorous body wouldn’t let her.
And Lucien knew it.
His smirk returned, satisfied. “That’s what I thought.”
His fingers trailed down her neck, teasing, tempting—
And then—
Cassian was there.
He ripped Lucien off her with a snarl, slamming him into the ground. “Enough.”
Lucien wiped blood from his lip, chuckling. “Jealous, brother?”
Cassian didn’t answer. He was breathing hard, his hands shaking.
Elara stared at him, her heart pounding.
Was that possessiveness she saw in his eyes?
No. Cassian had rejected the bond. Hadn’t he?
But then why was he looking at her like that?
Riven exhaled slowly. “Well. That was entertaining.” He tilted his head, amusement flickering in his dark eyes. “But I think you two are missing the point.”
Cassian turned to glare at him. “And what point is that?”
Riven’s smirk deepened. “No matter how much you fight it, no matter how much you deny it…” His gaze slid to Elara.
“You all belong to me.”
The Ultimate Betrayal
The words shouldn’t have sent heat racing down her spine.
But they did.
Elara’s entire world was unraveling.
The mate bond was relentless. It didn’t care about logic. It didn’t care about hatred. It didn’t care that she would rather die than be bound to three Alphas who wanted to tear each other apart.
And worst of all?
She didn’t know if she could resist them.
Not when Cassian’s rejection burned through her like ice.
Not when Lucien’s touch made her body ache for more.
Not when Riven’s possessive gaze sent shivers of anticipation through her veins.
She was falling into their trap.
And she had no way out.
