SCARLETT BLACKSTONE I spotted Logan’s mother making her way toward me, her face beaming with a bright smile. I felt a wave of uncertainty wash over me. Logan had mentioned that she was keen to spend some quality time with me, but I hadn’t anticipated her arrival today. Did Logan know she was coming? If so, why hadn’t he said anything? “Good afternoon, sweetheart,” she greeted, wrapping me in a cozy embrace. I returned the hug awkwardly and met her gaze as we pulled apart. “Good afternoon. I wasn’t aware you’d be here.” Her smile grew even wider. “I wanted to surprise you! How about joining me for lunch and a little shopping?” I blinked, puzzled. Why had she gone to such lengths just to be with me? “Um, I completely understand if you’d prefer not to,” she added, sensing my hesitation.
