Eira’s POV The gravel on the apartment roof crunches under my boots. I walk to the edge and grip the cold brick railings. Below me, the city is settling into the evening. Down on the street, humans are going home. A woman in a oversized coat is wrestling a stubborn umbrella. A man in a delivery van is blasting the radio, tapping his steering wheel. A city bus came to a stop at the corner. Half a dozen passengers step off, their shoulders hunched against the evening breeze. A little boy argues with his older sister over whose turn it is to walk the family's golden retriever. The dog ignores both of them, happily pulling them toward the park Somewhere farther down the street, music spills from the open door of a café as someone stacks chairs for the night.
