Chapter 3

That night, Cassian spent the entire evening and through the night at the villa with Aria. Sounds of intimacy echoed throughout the villa all night long. Early the next morning, when he came downstairs, he found Natalie passed out drunk on the living‑room sofa. Cassian let out a sigh, asked the housekeeper to bring a blanket, and carefully draped it over her. Standing behind him, Aria said sweetly, "You are so kind to your wife." "What? Are you jealous? Silly girl, I can be just as kind to you." Cassian pinched her soft, plump cheek and said, "Weren't you saying you were hungry? What would you like to eat?" "What if I said I want you to make rum bread pudding yourself? I've heard you make it absolutely delicious." After speaking, the young girl stuck out her tongue and added, "Am I being too greedy?" "Not greedy at all. I'll make it for you." When Natalie woke up, this was exactly the sight that greeted her. There in the dining room sat Aria, wearing Natalie's own nightgown, sitting right in her usual seat, eating the rum bread pudding Cassian had prepared with his own hands. Juices clung to the corners of Aria's mouth, and Cassian was gently wiping them away for her. In that instant, every bit of rage inside Natalie surged to the surface. She grabbed the nearest wine bottle, stood up, strode over, and smashed it hard right onto the woman's forehead. "You want to play around with other women? Fine! Bring one, and I'll hurt one, bring two, and I'll hurt two!" No sooner had the words left her lips than the wine bottle shattered open against Aria's head, sending shards of glass flying everywhere. Blood from her forehead mixed with red wine and streamed down Aria's face. She trembled in terror but dared not utter a single word, only looking toward Cassian as if begging for help. When the glass burst apart, tiny shards also sliced across Cassian's cheek, leaving a thin but clear-cut. He wiped away the blood with one hand, his brows drawing tight, his tone growing impatient. "I thought you'd finally come to your senses, yet you're still this stubborn? You know why I turned to her? It's because she is nothing like you. Your personality is far too strong. It never stirs any desire in me to protect you. But she does." With that, he slowly stood, picked up a sharp shard from the floor, and drove it straight into Natalie's exposed arm. Pain! She bit down hard on her lip and refused to cry out. "Remember this feeling. Don't ever dare mistreat my woman again, or I won't be so lenient." Though his voice sounded soft, it carried a bone‑chilling coldness. Natalie stared at the terrifying man standing before her, and suddenly laughed. "You once said exactly the same kind of words to me! Back when others were mistreating me, you spoke just like this!" After marrying him, she too had faced cruelty. Once, a gang of thugs had cornered her in a narrow alley and tried to hurt her. Cassian had rushed forward, landed a powerful kick that sent several men sprawling, smashed a bottle against the ground, and without hesitation drove a jagged shard deep into the lead attacker's leg. She would never forget the ferocious look on his face that day. "Hurt my woman? You want to die? Try it again, and next time it goes straight into your heart! Get lost!" He pressed the shard tip right against the man's chest until the thugs scrambled away, dragging their bleeding bodies. Seeing how frightened she was, Cassian had instantly softened, pulling her gently into his arms and murmuring soothingly, "There now, don't be scared. I'm here, darling. No one will ever dare hurt you again." But now, the same man was telling her not to hurt his other woman. "That was then, and this is now. Don't you dare act as if you deserve endless leeway just because I once doted on you. I first took an interest in you precisely because your pride and wildness felt exciting. But now… I'm simply ready for something new." Natalie gazed at him, and tears began to fall one by one. In the past, the moment tears appeared, his heart would melt instantly. Today, however, he only bent down, lifted the injured Aria in his arms, and turned to walk toward the doorway. "She cares deeply about her looks, she cannot afford a scar on her face. I'm taking her straight to the hospital." His back was cold, rigid, and utterly unyielding. Natalie lowered her head, staring silently at the fresh wound on her own arm. In this gamble called love, she had clearly lost everything. And if that was the truth, then it was time to bring everything to an end. She went straight to a reputable law office, found a lawyer, and had a formal divorce agreement drafted, ready to be signed whenever the moment came.
