Chapter 5

754 Words
Cassian quickly grabbed Natalie's thigh with sharp reflexes, a hint of anger finally appearing in his eyes. "Natalie, are you trying to ruin your husband? Aren't you afraid you won't have a s*x life for the rest of your life?" In the darkness, Natalie looked at the face above her and laughed. "I would love that. Otherwise, with you going fooling around, you'll eventually catch something and pass it on to me!" "Have you had enough?" He shoved her away and quickly got out of bed. The desire in his eyes faded, and his tone turned cold. "I know you're upset. The day after tomorrow is your birthday. I promised you I'd spend your birthday with you every year, and this year won't be an exception. I've booked a birthday banquet at the New York City Grand Hotel. I'll send someone to pick you up. For the next two days, calm yourself down." He took the keys and left the room. Natalie lay on the bed without moving. She stared at the ceiling, listening to the sound of the car driving away, and wanted to laugh, but tears came first. Yes. Cassian had once promised her he would spend every birthday with her. She didn't expect this year would be the last. She raised her hand and wiped away her tears. Fine. Then let it be the last time. Before long, it was the day of his birthday. When Natalie woke up, the servants had already brought the dress Cassian had sent earlier that morning into her room. "Madam, this is what the boss sent early this morning. He said you should wear it to the birthday banquet!" The dress was beautiful, a pink off-shoulder gown. Seeing it, a soft corner of Natalie's heart wavered. She had only mentioned once that she liked pink dresses, and after that, everything Cassian sent her was almost always pink. Five years, and at least he remembered her preferences. She sighed. Natalie still changed into the dress and went to the venue. When she arrived, many of their mutual friends from the past five years were already there. But Cassian was nowhere to be seen. "Happy birthday, Natalie!" "It looks like you and Cassian have made up?" "Well, it makes sense. A man as outstanding as Cassian having women outside is normal. That girl seems quite innocent, you don't need to worry." "At least she won't take your place as Mrs. Stewart." Hearing her friends speak as if Cassian's infidelity was normal, Natalie found it ridiculous. Only then did she realize she and they were never on the same side. She glanced around the lively banquet hall and said calmly, "Where is Cassian?" Just then, fireworks exploded across the sky. In the moment the brilliant light illuminated her face, Cassian walked toward her holding a bouquet of yellow roses. "Happy birthday, darling." He looked at her with a charming smile. "It's said that yellow roses symbolize apology, so I'll use these to apologize for my actions these past few days." He then took out an expensive diamond necklace and placed it around her neck. "I flew to France to buy it for you myself. Do you like it?" Natalie lowered her eyes and touched the necklace. It was something she had casually mentioned liking a month ago, and he actually remembered and bought it. Her nose stung, and for a moment, she almost forgave him. But the person who should not have appeared showed up at that very moment. "Happy birthday, Mrs. Stewart. This is a cake I made myself. I hope you like it." Aria appeared in front of everyone wearing an even more luxurious pink dress. On her neck was a diamond necklace identical to Natalie's. In that instant, Natalie realized she had never been his only preference. "Aria also wanted to apologize, so she personally made a cake for you." Cassian's casual tone completely ignited Natalie's anger. "So you don't think you did anything wrong at all. You don't even want to apologize! Otherwise, you wouldn't have brought this woman to my birthday banquet!" "Alright, Natalie, there are so many people here today. Don't make a scene, okay?" Cassian casually wrapped an arm around her waist and said softly, "There's something else I need to discuss with you. Today is also Aria's birthday. She's never had a proper birthday celebration before, it's quite pitiful. Why don't we give her this banquet first? Next time, I'll make it up to you with an even bigger one."
