Chapter 6

640 Words
Her blood seemed to freeze in an instant. Natalie could hardly believe what she had just heard. She bit her lip, and tears still fell uncontrollably. "Cassian, do you even understand what you're saying? You want me to hand my birthday banquet over to a mistress?" "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come." Hearing the words 'mistress,' Aria's eyes immediately turned red. She grabbed Cassian's arm and said softly, "I'll leave right now. Mr. Stewart, please don't make things difficult for Mrs. Stewart." Cassian, however, looked at Natalie with a dark expression. "It's just a birthday. Natalie, when did you become so petty?" The others also chimed in. "Yes, Natalie, you've already had so many birthdays. Just let this one go to Aria." "Exactly, Cassian is already lowering himself to comfort you. You should give him a way down." "The little girl didn't mean any harm. She's just jealous." They completely enraged Natalie. She let out a cold laugh, suddenly swept the cake from Aria's hands onto the floor, then turned and knocked over the champagne tower beside her. Glass shattered instantly, and the entire scene fell into chaos. Cassian's expression darkened immediately. "Natalie, what are you doing? Do you know Aria spent the entire day making that cake?" "Wasn't it made for me? If so, I can do whatever I want with it. I don't want it anymore, so I destroyed it. Any problem?" Natalie's voice trembled as she spoke. Her gaze swept across everyone's faces, a mocking smile curling at her lips. "You are all insane! It's just a birthday banquet. If she wants it, she can have it! I don't care about celebrating with a bunch of disgusting people like you anymore! And from now on, don't call Aria little girl anymore. Just call her Mrs. Stewart, because Cassian and I will have nothing to do with each other soon!" After speaking, she turned to leave. Cassian suddenly grabbed her wrist so hard it felt like her bones might break. "What are you doing? You destroyed the venue. How are we supposed to celebrate Aria's birthday now? I should never have brought you here today!" "Yes, I shouldn't have come either! So I'm leaving! Let go!" She shook him off and staggered out of the hotel. The cold wind outside cut through her thin clothes like blades. She felt frozen to the bone. But even colder than her body was her heart. She had not walked far when her wrist was grabbed again. "Mrs. Stewart, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have come! Today is your birthday, you should stay. I'm the one who should leave!" It was not Cassian, it was Aria. Seeing her, Natalie's expression darkened. "Let go of me!" "Mrs. Stewart, please don't go!" Aria blocked her path, crying pitifully. "I really didn't mean it! I never wanted to take your place as Mrs. Stewart. I really love Cassian… please, don't break us apart, okay?" "Stop acting in front of me. In all of New York City, no woman doesn't want to be Mrs. Stewart. You're no exception. Everyone's a cunning. Don't pretend to be innocent with me." "Oh? So you finally see through my acting?" Aria suddenly smiled. "Yes, I was acting. But to be honest, I never originally wanted to be Mrs. Stewart. After all, everyone said Cassian only ever loved you. But now… it seems that's not entirely true." Though her face was still tear-stained, her smile looked strangely unsettling. "So you really were acting! A girl barely in her twenties, and already this calculating. Too bad Cassian is blind." "Calculating? You really underestimate me." Aria's gaze drifted toward the busy road. Her smile grew more eerie. "Tell me... if you and I were both hit by a car at the same time, who do you think Cassian would save first?"
