Natalie froze, her mind going completely blank. "Cassian, what did you just say? Say it again."
"My love, we're married. We'll have plenty of children in the future. If you want, once you've recovered, we can have another one. The procedure has already been arranged for you. As soon as you're well enough, it will be done.
"Aria is still very emotional, so I need to check on her. My love, I can help clean up this mess for you, but I don't want there to be a next time." With that, he turned and walked out of the hospital room.
Natalie stared at his retreating figure as tears blurred her vision.
Another one?
Did he really just say they could have another one?
To him, was their child nothing more than a replaceable object? If he didn't want this one, he could simply get a new one?
No.
She would never allow him to do that.
As soon as she recovered, she would leave him.
Over the next several days, Cassian came to the hospital every day to visit her.
Each time, he brought a bouquet of flowers, countless gifts, and even personally fed her water and medicine.
Whenever the doctors and nurses saw this, they couldn't help but sigh with admiration. "Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Stewart really loves you."
"That's right. Ever since your accident, he's come to see you every single day."
"Just look at all the flowers in this room. They're practically piled up like a mountain."
Natalie lifted her eyes and glanced at the lilies filling the room before sneezing.
She had never liked lilies. In fact, she found their scent overwhelmingly unpleasant.
She had told Cassian that before. Now it was obvious he didn't remember.
And if she recalled correctly, lilies happened to be Aria's favorite flowers.
"You don't have to stay here with me all the time. You should go see Aria."
"You're my wife. Of course, I should stay by your side." Cassian reached out and held her hand. "The doctor said, you'll be mostly recovered by tomorrow. The procedure can be done then. My love, don't blame me. You were the one who made a mistake first."
"Cassian, I'll ask you one last time. Do you really not believe me?"
"Aria is innocent. She would never falsely accuse you. You've already caused her to lose her child. Please stop blaming her, all right?"
Natalie closed her eyes and said nothing more.
She knew that even if she asked a thousand times, the answer would remain the same.
Cassian believed Aria.
He would never believe her.
"I need to go to the office. There's a problem with one of the company's new products. The launch event is coming up soon, but we still haven't been able to reach the perfumer. I need to handle it personally. I promise that after your procedure tomorrow, I'll come see you immediately. And I'll make up for the birthday banquet I owe you." He lowered his head and pressed a kiss against her forehead. Then he turned and left.
The hospital room door slammed shut behind him.
Through the door, Natalie heard him giving instructions to the bodyguards.
"Keep an eye on her. Don't let her escape. Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock sharp, terminate the child she's carrying and bring it to Aria. Let Aria decide what to do with it. Understood?"
"Yes, Mr. Stewart!"
Natalie let out a cold laugh.
Of course, he couldn't reach the perfumer.
Because that perfumer was her.
Without hesitation, she tremblingly took out her phone and called the man overseas. "Mr. Grant, could you come and get me?"
"I just returned to the country. Tonight at ten o'clock, I'll send someone to pick you up."
"Thank you."
From the moment she ended the call, Natalie's nerves remained tightly wound.
Finally, ten o'clock arrived. The man's car had come.
After the bodyguards at the entrance were drugged into unconsciousness, she was escorted out of the hospital.
As she passed the room next door, the corner of her eye caught sight of Cassian inside. He and Aria were lying together on the hospital bed, sleeping soundly.
Seeing the scene again, she felt nothing. Instead, she withdrew her gaze and quickly walked out of the hospital.
At the front entrance stood a black Maybach.
After getting into the vehicle, she saw a breathtakingly handsome face.
"Welcome, Ms. Mitchell. We're delighted to have you join the Grant Group."
"I can join your company and bring the new fragrance I've developed with me." Natalie raised her eyes to meet his gaze, her voice calm and steady. "But before that, Mr. Grant, could you do me a favor?"
"Go ahead."
"I want you to help me obtain a surveillance recording and an investigation report..."
As the hospital disappeared farther and farther into the distance, the tension in Natalie's body gradually eased.
She leaned back against the seat and looked out the window at the passing scenery.
Slowly, she closed her eyes.
Finally, she could leave Cassian completely and forever.
