Mark flashed her a charming smile and left without a backward glance. Meg locked the door and sat on the couch, staring at the card. When she took in a deep breath, she could smell the lingering scent of his aftershave. Pulling the throw pillow close, she inhaled his scent a second time and smiled, but it was fleeting. Having him here, inside her home had felt so good, so right, she’d almost managed to ease some of the worry from her mind. But now he was gone, the doubts and anxiety slowly began to creep back in.
