Glen Campbell was wonderful. Annie jumped and screamed when he sang “Wichita Lineman,” “Dream of the Everyday Housewife,” “Galveston,” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” It was truly inspirational when, for his encore, he sang Patsy Cline’s “Crazy,” then a wonderful gospel classic, “Amazing Grace.” Annie sang every song and when she jumped, her breasts jumped, too. I wanted to grab them to keep them from bouncing so much.
Annie didn’t seem to mind that we rode in Dr. Laighles’s ugly truck, which chugged along to the fairgrounds. I was embarrassed by its ugliness, but she didn’t care. We tossed dimes onto glass dishes, threw softballs at metal milk bottles, and played the basketball dunking game.
