Veronica Lake died today. She was fifty. She was a movie star from the forties that my mother used to talk about. Her obituary said that after her career went south, she ended up working as a barmaid at the Martha Washington Hotel on East 29th Street in NYC. She was very beautiful when she was younger and called herself a s*x zombie instead of a s*x symbol. I think she was my mother’s favorite actress, but I could be mistaken. She died of hepatitis, which I didn’t think people died from, but I guess they do. She was living in Burlington, Vermont. I have been to Burlington.
