I’m within a few years of my parents’ age when they were married. My mother was born in 1928, my father in 1927, just as the Depression was beginning to slam its hammer. It’s difficult to picture my parents as children, but of course I know they were. My grandparents were born in 1907, ’08, ’10, and ’13. My great-grandparents were born in the late 1880s, which I find amazing. I wonder who will be the last person born in the 1800s to die? If they die in the year 2000 or later, they will have lived in three centuries. Has that ever happened before? That’s twenty-seven years away. My family has lived in this area since the Revolutionary War. Now, I’m the only person in my family who still lives in Lakewood. The rest have scattered to the winds all over the country.
