Roy invited me to his house for dinner tomorrow night. I accepted. Today, I almost won at chess. The chess clock ran out of time again. But, when the game ended, Roy was nearly out of time, as well. He had forty-six seconds remaining. Toward the end, I checked him six times in a row, but he escaped like a greased monkey. I knocked him out of position and had his pieces scattered, but I couldn’t draw it to a close. Soon. Soon. I rode my motorcycle to the countryside after work. I don’t know where I was, just somewhere among the trees. It will be my last ride, because Wayne McArthur, one of the mechanics at Waite’s Keystone on Fluvanna Avenue, said he’d give me two hundred bucks for my motorcycle. I need the money. I bounced a small check at the pharmacy. The bank charged me three dollars.
