Lucy's point of view
"He seems really unapproachable and emotionless. I think I will avoid him," I said to myself.
"Wow, are you talking about Alex?" I heard Suzy's voice behind me.
"Have you been following us?" Rebecca glared at her.
"Maybe," Suzy smiled.
I turned to see her. "This is the first time I am hearing someone say that they would avoid Alex," Suzy said to me. Did I say it out loud? I shrugged. "He does look like someone who could easily kill me for a slight mistake. I feel safer around you and Rebecca than I do with him," I added.
Suzy smiled. "Well, I do have an aura that makes people feel safe," she said.
Rebecca rolled her eyes. "More like an aura for meddling in other people's affairs."
Suzy linked her arm with mine. "Lucy isn't other people; she is part of us, so she is my person."
"And Lucy, don't be prejudiced; you don't know anything about Alex like I do," Rebecca frowned slightly. I blinked rapidly. "I..."
"Don't mind Rebecca; she is crazy," Suzy said, dragging me along with her, leaving the frowning Rebecca standing and staring at us as we left.
"Why did she suddenly change her character?" I asked Suzy.
"That's a long story for another day," Suzy said. She took me to a small hut. "This is my hut; you can stay here with me for tonight. Tomorrow, the werewolves that go for hunting will help you build a hut."
I nodded obediently and followed her into the hut. It was a little messy, and everything in the hut was mainly made with trees and leaves.
"Everyone here has an obligation. The betas and alphas go to hunt, fight, and rescue people like you. Alex and Rebecca are among the werewolves that go out to hunt. Omegas like you and me are either in the cooking side or the healing..." She trailed off. "There are a lot of things you can do here."
I smiled, sitting on the bed made of grass. "I like it here."
Suzy smiled. "We are going to be best buddies."
We chuckled, and after a few moments of talking about the Rogues and how they work, we retired to bed. One thing I learned was that these Rogues were better than any pack I had heard about. They were like a haven, making me feel relaxed and bold.
The next day, Suzy and I went to inform the werewolves about the hut that was to be made for me, but we were told that Alex had created the hut during the night. The news made me wonder if I was indeed wrong about him.
"Poor Alex, he couldn't sleep last night," I heard Suzy mutter.
I looked at the ground, feeling very guilty. "You should thank him," Suzy said to me.
I nodded. "Where is he?"
Suzy pointed in the direction of the forest. "Just go straight, and you'll see a very big tree. He always sits there when he doesn't sleep at night," Suzy said.
I followed the path Suzy had described. Alex was sitting on the ground, leaning his back against the massive tree while gazing at the sky. My heart skipped a beat at his handsome appearance. There was no denying it he was good-looking I said to myself.
"Are you going to keep drooling or say what you came to say?" His voice startled me out of my thoughts.
"I... I..." I stuttered, feeling flustered.
He stood up and took a few steps toward me, making me even more nervous. "I... I..." I suddenly forgot what I had come to say, and my face turned beet red. I quickly looked down at the grass beneath my feet.
"I'm guessing you came to thank me for the hut?" he asked.
I nodded, not trusting my voice. "If you need anything else, feel free to call me." Although his voice lacked warmth, his words were different.
I raised my head and met his gaze, realizing that maybe he wasn't as bad as I had thought. He had never spoken harshly to me, only with a certain coldness.
"Do you have anything else you want to say?" he inquired.
"No." I quickly turned and ran back to where Suzy was waiting for me.
"What happened? Why are you blushing?" Suzy looked at me with a sly smile.
"Nothing," I coughed nervously. I tried to avoid her gaze and saw Alex walking toward the hut I had woken up in, known as Old Rita's hut.
"Doesn't he seem a bit lonely, like a huge weight is on him?" I asked Suzy.
When I didn't get a reply, I shifted my gaze from Alex to Suzy, who was now staring at me. "Didn't you say you wanted to stay away from him and that he scares you?" Suzy questioned.
I looked away, feeling conflicted.
"Anyway, if you're curious about Alex, you should meet Rebecca. She's known as his 'wife' among the Rogues," Suzy said.
"Wife?, like Rebecca is his mate?" I blurted out.
Suzy chuckled. "Not really. Rebecca took the title of his 'wife' by chasing after Alex for two years. The Rogues nicknamed Rebecca as 'Alex's wife' because of how she persistently followed him," Suzy explained.
I swallowed, deciding it was best to keep my distance from Alex, as Suzy had suggested.
Suzy glanced at me. "No lady dares to approach Alex because of Rebecca, and I'd advise that you don't either."
"I wasn't thinking of..." I began.
"Don't be too curious," Suzy added with a smile.
After what Suzy told me, I spent weeks avoiding Alex, and I grew closer to Suzy and Rebecca.
I ventured to the river for my usual nighttime bath. The surroundings were cloaked in darkness, with only the half-moon hanging in the sky and the soft glow of fireflies providing any illumination.
With a sense of tranquility, I shed my clothes and stepped into the cool, flowing water. A contented smile played on my lips as the chilly stream caressed my bare skin. I waded deeper into the river, relishing the sensation, and closed my eyes to fully immerse myself in the moment.
As I moved forward, lost in the serene embrace of the river, I abruptly collided with something warm and solid. My entire body tensed, and I felt a firm hand wrap around my waist, steadying me. Slowly, I looked up, my heart racing, and found myself staring into the eyes of Alex.
All I had wanted was to live in peace, free from the terrible experiences I had endured with my mate and the Moonlight Pack. I had yearned for a life devoid of further complications, romance, or embarrassing moments. Yet, it appeared that fate had a different path in store for me.
My thoughts raced as I met Alex's gaze, and a whirlwind of emotions churned within me.
