Chapter 3 Midnight Terror

692 Words
As Catherine's body disappeared into the darkness, she suddenly felt herself kick something. Her already exhausted body fell straight forward. In the instant she fell, a cold object pressed against her temple. Before she could react, a cold voice rang out: "Speak, who are you?" Catherine stared at the pitch-black underpass, and upon hearing the cold, emotionless voice, she instinctively trembled. Overwhelmed with fear, she couldn't help but scream, "Ah~ There's a ghost!" She quickly covered her mouth after yelling. She'd almost forgotten that she'd sneaked out; if she screamed so loudly and her captors heard her, she'd be taken back. What to do now? Maybe she should get up first. Catherine had barely moved when that cold voice rang out again. "If you move again, I'll shoot." Upon hearing this, Catherine had no choice but to remain motionless while lying on the ground. However, she wondered why her hands always felt sticky. Was it just her imagination? "Who exactly are you?" that cold voice rang out again. With a mournful face, Catherine remained in that position and whispered, "Brother Ghost, I beg you, please don't scare me. I just happened to be passing by, I really didn't mean to offend you. I still have a lot of things to do, I don't want to die." "Speak." The man in the darkness felt a little embarrassed upon hearing her words, but still spoke indifferently. Who was she? Just passing by? He didn't believe it! Her voice sounded like a ten-year-old child, but what kind of kid would be out at two in the morning? And he'd only been hiding there for ten minutes, and this kid appeared right after. If it was a coincidence, it was too much of a coincidence. It was pitch black under the bridge; judging by voice alone was too hasty. Perhaps this person wasn't just ten years old, because voices can be altered. Thinking this, a murderous aura filled the man. This person was definitely sent by those guys to kill him. He should just finish her off under the cover of darkness. He couldn't use a gun; attracting her accomplices would be troublesome. That's what he'd do! The man's hand slowly reached towards Catherine, and just as he was about to touch her, a series of footsteps sounded around him. He quickly withdrew his hand, gripping the gun tightly. His accomplices had arrived very quickly! "Strange, I clearly heard a sound coming from here just now." A man's voice came from not far away. Hearing that familiar voice, Catherine became incredibly uneasy. What should she do? They were catching up, and the gun on her forehead was gone. She tried to stand up and run to the other side. But the underpass was too dark. Were any of her family members on the other side? Were they blocked off? Catherine muttered anxiously, "Oh no, oh no, we're definitely going to get caught now." Captured? The man was puzzled. Was she also hiding? It was best not to let his guard down; perhaps she was just saying that to lower his guard, hoping her accomplices would come to rescue her quickly. Hmph! You really can't trust women! Catherine was unaware of the man's thoughts. Hearing the approaching footsteps outside, she was nearly in despair. What should she do? Was she just going to sit there and wait to die? Was she just going to let them take her back? No, she wouldn't! She hadn't even had a chance to see the scenery outside before being taken back? Absolutely not. But what should she do now? Should she ask this ghost for help? She definitely didn't want to be caught and taken back; she'd take a gamble! Thinking this, Catherine said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Brother Ghost, you must protect me from them! After it's all over, I'll burn you lots and lots of gold and silver treasures." But no one answered her. She could only listen to the footsteps close at hand and decide to take the plunge. Catherine quickly got up from the ground and tiptoed to the other side.
