Today I went to see Catherine. I took some of her favorite cakes from a shop in Bath. It was raining rather hard, and there was such a bitter, chilly wind! I managed to keep the cakes dry, which was quite a feat. I was also in Bath to see Mme Allard, who had asked me to call. It seems that she is quite rushed to finish several gowns, and she asked if I was available to sew the lace trim on one of them. I am very proud of myself, for she looked down her nose at me and offered me quite a mean sum to do the work, and I looked down my nose at her and refused. Before you gasp and say I should not have done so, be assured that she is paying me double what she originally offered because I demanded it! Oh, I was as polite as can be.
