Shane's Angel

#3 Wedding

Shane..

It was twilight, the last colorful rays of light painting the clouds stunning shades of red and purple. Beneath the willows, next to the pond it was already very dark. The twinkling fairy lights laced through the trees turned the clearing into an enchanted forest that was breath taking. Shane stood next to his brother as they waited for Seth's mate to walk an aisle covered with white, pink ,and red color rose petals.

Shane passed the rings he was holding restlessly from hand to hand as the music changed. As unchained melody faded he was surprised when Jade stepped into aisle, instead of the traditional wedding march the haunting intro to She's like the wind floated through the air. He had to smile as she began to walk gracefully towards them, trust Jade to go her own way in all things, he thought as he took in her dress.

The only thing traditional about her dress was the two or three inches at the back hem that gently brushed back and forth across the floor as she moved up the aisle. The dress itself was a deep wine red that seemed to have come from the twilight sky overhead. Sleeveless with a high neckline and fitted bodice it flared at the hips into a high low hem that showed her legs from just below the knees. He swept his gaze up from her feet encased in delicate strappy high heels to her blonde hair piled gracefully in an elegant up do and decorated with red roses and a delicate spray of baby's breath.

When she stepped next to Seth he smiled broadly as his brother reached for her hands. Shane felt a deep warmth from them as the happy couple turned to the priestess to exchange their vows. He stepped forward to hand over the rings when the woman asked for them. He was so happy for them but at the same time a tiny part of him wished he could find his mate too.

After the ceremony Shane sat through the formal reception dinner feeling like it would never end. By the time the champagne was passed around to toast the happy couple and the cake was cut, he was bored out of his mind and ready for something stronger than champagne. Once the cake and champagne were gone Seth led Jade out onto the dance floor for their first dance. Shane sat at the table and watched as humans and wolves joined Jade and Seth on the dance floor.

Both species mingling and dancing together in harmony. The sight made Shane very happy and helped remind him why he had chosen to be a council enforcer. He liked protecting the innocent and stopping the rogues that would kill anything in their path.

As he sat watching the couples on the dance floor he noticed the wait staff clearing tables and pulling them to the edges of the dining area. making sure there was still seating around the outside but leaving a larger area for dancing. On the far side of the open area he saw them setting up a full bar. Seth and Jade had spent freely and had every intention of letting everyone party into the wee hours of the morning.

As soon as the bartender started serving he wandered over and got a whiskey. Then he stood at the bar eyeing a few of the single she wolves that were hanging out not far away laughing and whispering amongst themselves. While he was thinking about asking one to dance and maybe a bit more the song ended and Seth left the dance floor and headed straight towards him, keeping his arm wrapped firmly around Jades waist as they walked over. He smiled broadly as Seth clapped him on the shoulder and said

" Hey, man. Are you enjoying the party?"

" yeah" he said as he stepped forward to give Jade a brief hug.

"Congratulations, it was a beautiful ceremony and the party looks like it's gonna be epic."

"Well." Jade said laughing as she leaned into Seth's side.

" You'll have to tell us all about it later. The DJ and bartender will be here until two or three am, unless everyone leaves before then. We're going to be leaving now. It's time to throw the bouquet."

"OK, I guess I'll be seeing you out then." Shane said, laughing as she stepped away from them and held her bouquet up as high as she could.

When the DJ noticed her holding up the flowers he stopped the music and announced.

"Hey, everyone! It's time for the happy couple to throw the bouquet and take off! All you single girls gather here in front of me!"

Shane smirked and followed everyone over to stand behind the group of excited young women who were jostling each other to get in the best spot. He laughed with the other guests as Jade made a show of turning her back and swinging the bouquet before letting it fly over her shoulder.

He was frozen for a few seconds, watching the flowers sail through the air. Then he snapped his hand out and caught it just before it hit him in the face. He stared at the bouquet in his hand in shock for a few seconds then looked at his brother and new sister. They were both grinning at him and Seth yelled at him.

"You're next!!" laughing with Jade like it was hysterical.

Shane rolled his eyes at them, and lightly growled as he handed the bouquet to the nearest girl. Still laughing they turned and headed down the well lit path to the mustang, with all the guests following them. Seth helped Jade into the car, smoothing the train of her dress in and carefully closing the door. As he trotted around to the drivers side Jade rolled down her window to wave as the car pulled away.

While everyone else went back to dancing and drinking, Shane stood in the driveway staring after the mustang until the taillights had long ago disappeared. He knew this was a new beginning in their lives but he still felt a little strange and unsettled now that the wedding had become reality.

He and Seth would still be working together sometimes but Seth would be staying much closer to home and Jade. He could feel the foundation of his life shifting and changing. He felt like something was coming but he couldn't tell if it would be good or bad. He knew the council was tracking Robert and would call as soon as they had word, but he wasn't sure if that was what he was feeling. As he stood there trying to understand what his problem was, his phone began to ring...
