CHAPTER 2: A BRIDE.

Dylan York's Pov I casually strolled into the conference room not bothering to greet the other staff as the office was very busy and tense. Someone was leaking our secrets and it had to be one of them. I tug at my suit trying to fit it in properly. “They are waiting inside,” Jack says standing in front of the conference room door. I nod sternly before walking in. We were supposed to strike another deal with the Automobile J block industry, meaning if we came into an agreement it would change business, lifting both our companies greatly. We'd have to draft the best design model that we have ever handled, meaning the prints would have to stay out of the wrong hands and I knew exactly how to make my plan a success. Just as the meeting is about to commence my phone suddenly buzzes in my pocket. My mother's name immediately popped on the caller ID. I sigh before ending the call and putting it back into my pocket as I am about to open the conference door. It buzzes again. “Hello, Mom,” I say, my voice low and warm. “Dylan” Her voice sounded warm from the other end.”You better have good news for me.” I nearly roll my eyes pressing my hands above the bridge of my nose. Not this time again. “I can't talk now, Mom. I have a meeting to attend right now.” My voice is still very calm as I speak to her despite the nerves I feel. My mom was someone I could never lash out at, no matter the situation. Ever since my father died, she has been the only family I had left, but her continuous urges to get married were already getting tiring. “No, Mom, I told you I'm not interested in women for now. I have to work, “ I concluded, hoping she'd give a positive response. “Work, work work. That's all you ever do. Anyway, I'll be in Beverly Hills today, and you better present me with a bride. I'm already old as it is, I need a grandchild.” Mom was someone I could never refuse no matter how I tried. I just wanted to make sure she was happy, and if getting married even if it was just until I provided her with an heir, I would do it. “Okay. “ I say before dismissing the call. Now not only did I have to catch a crook, I also had to do so while trying to find myself a bride. A sigh escapes my lip, pinching the bridge of my nose. Of course. I open the door, revealing the group of people scattered in their seats; without any baited glances, I move over to the head chair and take a seat. The deal with the Automobile J Block industry was a game-changer. If we pulled this off, both companies would skyrocket in value. But it was also risky. The blueprints for the new model we were drafting had to stay safe and out of the wrong hands. And I knew I was the only one who could make that happen. The room fell silent, all eyes now on me. I straightened my back, the usual calm confidence settling over me. Time to get to work. "Let’s get started," I said, my voice cutting through the quietness. The room shifted into motion, everyone straightening up and focusing. °° The meeting blurred together in a house. The Automobile J-block industry still didn't want to seal the deal due to the problem of it getting leaked these days. The last time we made a deal with the H-block it resulted in the same thing. f*****g leaked, every f*****g time. The J-block was a corporation with many branches. I didn't entirely need them but having a close relationship with them would be very beneficial in the long run. The entire business empire has been in chaos, but for some reason, the leaking was only happening in my organization. It was as if it was my organization being mainly targeted. There had to be someone leaking them from the inside but whoever it was wouldn't last any longer. My phone buzzed again in my pocket with Jack's name popping on the screen. Jack and I had been tracing details on the possible suspect and I had a feeling it was much more than what was seen to the naked eye. Whoever was doing this had other agendas and I was going to find out. I reached out to pick it up, but just then, another call came in: My mom. Again. I already knew what she wanted; a wife. And I had to get one in the next 48 hours but was that even possible? With work and my side job, I've kept a secret; I don't have enough time for women. “Yes, Mom,” I said immediately again. “What is it again?” I didn't mean to sound cold, but with the workload, I couldn't think straight at the moment. “ I'm coming tomorrow to see you. I've missed my son already.” The excitement in her voice was clear. I smile slightly at the thought of her missing me. Since I was little she had always loved me to bits. “Okay, Mom,” I said, the smile still printed on my face. “I still expect to see my daughter-in-law too.” She reminded me again. The main reason she had called back was to make sure I heard it again. She knew the kind of person I was. I wasn't going to present her with any bride, but she still kept on trying. My main priority now was far from women, it was pure business. “Okay,” I said hanging up the call. Jack's call notification popped up on the screen, and just as I was about to call back, it buzzed again. I picked it up, pulling it close to my ear to wait for his words. “We’ve found him, sir.” “I suggest you speak now if you value your life.” I grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer, our faces inches apart. His breath hitched, eyes darting between mine and the gun I had drawn, now pressed against his temple.
